Doe anyone know of ways to extend the battery life on a laptop. I own a Sony Vaio PCG-315Z but the best it'll last is just over an hour. Is there any software out there that can increase it to 2 hours even.

    What are ye moaning about?

An hour is plenty time to connect to the net, load up girls.com and fapp one off.

Anything more is just a waste:D

But really I don't think you can 'extend' your 'battery life' short of buying a new one.

Turn the monitor brightness down to as low as possible. That is the biggest power waster.

Also if you have any optical devices (DVD etc.) unplug them if possible. Turn off the sound as well I guess

Do you use the power management settings? I generally run mine on "Vaio Optimized" but there is "Vaio Maximum Battery" and "Vaio Ultimate Battery" for extra battery life.

How 'bout one of these ? :D Seriously, do all the above, and if you have a wifi adapter you're not using switch it off (or remove it if it's PCMCIA). Minimize HD usage. (Depending on your task you can sometimes make a significant battery saving by just working off a USB key instead of the HD).

Thanks everyone for the replies. Forgot to mention though that I've got the monitor at minimum and even disabled the lan port, Sorry.

I guess you let the battery run down fully at least once a month and usually leave it charging overnight? Heard somewhere that even when OS reports battery charged, it has only been fast-charged to 85% and it takes several more hours for it to get up to 100%

Charging while OS is on is just a waste of time as it takes twice as long. No other suggestions other then see if Sony offer a Longer Life battery, most do.

Install Linux and run from terminal only :D
