Glen Crowe for Ireland

Having watched Ireland stumble past two of world footballs minnows over the last week, and her strikers play abysmally, one wonders why oh why Mick McCarthy has overlooked Ireland's most in form striker yet again. While David Connolly has been spending his days warming a Dutch bench, Glen Crowe has been banging goals in left, right and centre at European and domestic level for Bohemians. I know that most of the contributors think of the league as an inferior entity to our friends across the Irish Sea, and prefer your nice warm barstool to a plastic bucket seat Glen's form cannot be overlooked. He has scored 20 goals in the league this season, and 9 more in other competitions, including two against UEFA Cup semi finalists, Kaiserslautern, who now rest third in the Bundesliga. Surely, with Niall Quinn injured, there was no alternative. Connolly is overrated, and Doherty is, while a superb defender, with a massive future, a donkey up front. Even if Glen fails to make the grade, then surely this clears McCarthy of any wrongdoing, and if he succeeds, Ireland have another striker. He can't lose, while at the moment Glen can't win. Glen Crowe for Ireland.

I agree that Crowe is a better striker (not tough since David Connolly is complete $hite) - the problem is if players aren't in the Premiership they get overlooked because of the FAI leagues 'part-timer' nature.

Connolly is getting picked because he was banging in goals for that Dutch 1st Division side Exclesior last season. The Dutch 1st Division is total rubbish, as indeed is the Dutch Premier League at the moment. Anyone remember when Ajax were actually a force in Europe?
