I saw an article that looks suspiciously like that site a few months back.

I'd love to try it, but I'm too much of a pussy and my laptop is an Aldi one, so it's plastic. Which probably isn't the easiest to spraypaint.

Remember the paint does not cure for 3 months
    not a quick mod.

Ya it fcukn damn depressing allright! See my thread about my laptop! It's interesting reading! Anyhow I read some where before that if you send your printer off to repaired by HP and take your inks before they collect it that it will come back with brand new inks fitted! I'm trying that idea with my battery! I'v it taken out and hopefully it will come back with a new battery! worth a try any how!

Afraid not. It's long dead and it got scratched to bits. Painting the controllers was never a good idea. :)

hmmm..... anyone have experience with spray painting? care to offer advice?

i really want to try this on my laptop, but im worried about how long the paint takes to cure properly and it getting scratched?
any advice on getting spray paint to cure on plastic quickly and properly?

might give this a go on an old laptop first though, dont wanna ruin my work horse.

i opened my laptop to put a new hard drive in the other day and had 3 screws leftover that didn't seem to go back anywhere.

no, i don't think i'll be trying this mod.

Heres a hint for keeping all your screws togethor (I do professional laptop repair and modding, and this is what I do)

    1. Grab a big 'ol cardboard box
    2. Cut it up into about 5 or 6 peices the size of your laptop.
    3. As you go along, draw outlines of your laptop and mark screwholes. Just shove the screws into the cardboard- this will keep you from losing them as well.
    4. Put the part on top of the cardboard/screws when youve removed it
    5. Number the cardboard as 'layers' so you can remember what is where.

It's a simple an easy trick, doesnt take long, and is definetly worth it. I can post pics of this is you want.

I painted my inspiron 8100 a while back, with metallic flecked paint, looked kewl.
Took about 2 hours to mask off the stuff I didn't want to paint.
I didn't bother sanding down the original paint job, as I wasn't sure if I was going to like the new blue colour.

    Problems/suggestions:
The paint takes hours to dry, about 8 hours per coat, and in this time *everything* sticks to it. I have 3 dogs, go figure, 3rd and 4th coats were mostly to fill in the holes where I'd to pull off a hair. Do it in a clean room.
Test the paint you're going to use on a small area first, or better yet, read about someone else who did it, and use the same paint/primer. I went through 3 or 4 kinds of paint before I got one that looked good.
Take the plunge and scrub the existing paint off, them prime it, and find a decent fixative. I didn't, and my paint job last about 3 months before I could see the original paint around the palmrests. Don't want to think what it did to my sleeves..

Oh, I did a desktop too, in black and red, monitor in blue (still have it in my attic somewhere..)that worked better because you almost never touch them.

It was a lot of fun, but they were both old enough that I didn't mind too much fecking them up. Prepare better than I did, and enjoy!
