signed cricket bat beginning to flake... recommend a protective coating

i have a miniture bat signed by Brian Lara which has been up on my wall for years but ive noticed the surface of the bat beginning to crack and flake. can anyone recommend something i could coat the bat in to stop it flaking and obviously wouldnt wipe off the autograph
