Dead Pixels on Aldi TFT

Got one of these yesterday - nice looking unit, good picture etc.

However, I downloaded a pixel tester last night and it showed up several dead pixels - about 4 or 5.

I'm just wondering is this acceptable or should there not be any dead'uns.

After all, the monitor wasn't really all that cheap @€;250 (only €200 on the continent of course!)

There shouldnt really be any in an ideal world, try returning it and getting another I'd say.

where did you get the pixel tester??? I'll test out mine...
there's a doc here http://www.iiyama.ru/service/ISO_13406_2.pdf regarding the allowable number of dead pixels to correspond to the specifications.
    at 1280x1024 they allow 3...

Yeah all manufacturers have an allowable amount before they consider it a problem.

3 is unusual, I think. 5 is more like it from what I've seen. Iiyama are very good spec though so they might be a little more warey of dead pixels and more concerned with them.

The question is... Will Aldi staff know what you're talking about? I wouldn't think it's something that's that well known about. Sure it is for tech people or people who've encountered them... Anyhow good luck with it.

    kenmc:

You can get the tester at

    http://www.dps.uk.com/freeware_DTP.htm

Just displays different colours on the screen so you can check for dead pixels.

It seems that I have quite a lot of dead sub-pixels, but not so many dead full ones. This is to be expected.

I know for fact PC World replace monitors straight away if there is dead pixel. Speaking from past experience. I also had one in my DS, gamestop changed that for me no probs..it seems only the technology heads such as komplett, jes etc actually support the manufacturers requirements for pixel faults

It depends where they are on the monitor, eg. 4 close together will most likely be replaced, but 1 at each corner (example) will most likely not be.

    podge,
ok i'll test that tonite when I get home and let you know how it goes for me.
[edit] course getting it changed is not an option - refund would be all, cos they're all out.. unless you wanna go via medion themselves and see how it goes... time consuming though.

I rang the Medion helpline and they said I could return it to them for a replacement - probably take a long time though.

I must sit down tonight and do an exact count on how amny are dead - both full and sub.

What exactly does the 3 year warranty cover ? - e.g say there are 6 dead pixels now, in six months time 6 more etc. Will I be able to get a replacement in, say, 2 years because of 25 dead pixels.

I think I might return it for a refund. As I said earlier, it ain't cheap.

it will cover all manufacturing defects for 3 years, so yeah.

All TFTs come with this risk, wether it be Dells €900 20" Widescreen or Acers 17"

As a general rule, the dead pixel count doesn't increase.

depends on how bad it is... to be honest i think it is pretty cheap for a 17" monitor with 10ms times... compare that to komplett for example...
cheapest 10ms one is IIyama 17" for 277 plus delivery.....
dead happy with mine yesterday, will look see tonite how many are dead. put it this way - didn't notice any all day yday, so if it takes a special test tool to show me what I missed I won't be too worried about it...

me dunno - will find out when I get home methinks!! :o)

    yeah, its noticeable.

when the whole screen is white, and theres 1 black dot, u notice it!

by deffinition a 'dead' pixel is stuck on black or white, but there's 'lazy' pixels aswel which are red or green or blue etc.

in short, yeah you'd notice it when the whole screen was one particular colour
