Hey, just looking for a specialised Jazz shop in Dublin, looking for general Jazz music/CDs/Books.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated!

    Thanks!

Hmmm don't think there is one really, Tower Records is probably the best place tbh they have a lot of stuff and they're fairly good for ordering in as well. Upstairs in HMV Grafton st is pretty good too...

I wish there was! Not that I know of unfortunately... but if you find one definitely let us know! I'd say for CDs your best bet is Tower, they seem to have the best selection from what I can see. HMV Grafton St isn't too shoddy either.

As for sheet music, you could give Walton's on George's St a go - it's kind of hit and miss though, the last time I was in there (which was a good while ago, so it could well have changed since) their selection wasn't much more than beginners jazz books and the like. Opus II further down on the opposite side of the street is worth a try too, they're very helpful for getting in music that you want.

There isn't enough of a market to sustain a specialised Jazz shop in Dublin. Its been tried in the past but did not work out but at least the situation is far better now than before - most serious shops stock a bit while as the other posters have said HMV Grafton St (and to a smaller degree in Henry St) and both Towers (Wicklow St and dont forget the Easons branch) also stock a good range. You will find some secondhand stuff and a small selection of of new stuff in both Freebird on the quays and City Discs in Temple Bar.

Hodges Figgis and Waterstones in Dawson Street and both Easons carry a fair range of music books Hodges Figgis is probably the best for jazz as they often have American books in stock.

I did leave out an important one cos I could not think of the name at the time :)

Its Spindizzy in the George's St Arcade - they usually keep a small but good stock of jazz stuff and you often see stuff there that does not seem to crop up anywhere else. There is also a stall in the arcade which sells some jazz stuff.
