I just downloaded a song for the first time on itunes, but it won't let me play through windows media, is this because it's protected? is there any way i can change this?

Did you try to play it through iTunes? Maybe there is an update for Windows Media that will play whatever format they are in.
Why try to play it in Win Media when you have iTunes?

because i have a certain set of monitors playing through an mbox thaT i'm using as my default soundcard, for some reason i can only hear media played through windows media.. i could connect my normal speakers to my regular soundcard but they sound SHíT!!

Yes I have iTunes too. The problem is that iTunes songs are not supported by something like WMA files so you can only play songs on iTunes. Hope this helps.

forget itunes, buy ur music from allofmp3 and choose the 128 variable bit rate, its as good as 160 kbs mp3s or better than itunes aac, songs cost about 1/12th of itunes. why do u want to use itunes?
yes u can burn them to cd and rip them back as mp3,s but u will loose quality as its a different compression format.

Yea D!ve^Bomb!, you can. That's probably the quickest way around your problem. Burn 'em on to a CD reimport them back in whatever format you want. As lomb says you will lose quality

If you downloaded them from the apple itunes website, yes they are copy protected. If not they may be encoded as either AAC or apple lossless encoder

On a Mac(I dunno about windows) another good plan is to go into your preferences-importing and make sure you change it to import as mp3 encoder. The default setting is either apple lossless encoder or AAC. It may be the same in windows.

At least that way any import u make in itunes you can play as an mp3 in WMA.

I also agree with lomb about using itunes on windows. It's pretty good on macs but the windows release is a bit of a dog.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Try and change the default soundcard in windows to your mbox-card (what is it by the way?). I think iTunes will only use the default card.

uuuuh.. let me get this straight - you signed up to the worst DRM-infected service ever and you DON'T have the ipod to flash about with?

Man that's a whole new level of stupidity.

Maybe if i knew what DRM meant i'd be insulted.. but i don't, and i'm not, so go away

Digital Rights Management - it's what's stopping you using the music you paid for. A more advanced version of the stuff that stops you playing the cd you just bought in your car or PC. Eventually the aim of DRM is a pay-per-play system whereby you have to pay for a song every time you use it, while being locked into using a certain bit of software, or player, or PC.

Welcome to the new millenium, you've just been screwed by apple.

that's weird cos i listened to a song TWICE:eek: last night and only paid for it once.. are you tellin me that if i burn this music to a cd then it won't play in a cd player? ok so, whatever you say

Not yet - but eventually, that's what the music industry wants you to do. You paid for the song, you own it, right? You should be able to listen to it when you want, how you want, without having to buy it in different formats or from different services. But the music industry figures, hey, they bought 2 copies of everything when we introduced cd's, lets screw em again.

forget itunes like i said, its a disaster, sign up to allofmp3.com they give u 2 free songs on signup. choose the variable bit rate 128k in advanced options. top notch quality for about 7cent a song with no DRM.

sorry meant to choose the variable bit rate mp3 option then no more crap and mp3 wil continue into the distant future so u dont have to recompress and loose sleep and quality.
