In The Square at the weekend this unit caught my eye. An Emprex dual-layer burner with a €74.99 price sticker. In fact, about 5 of them. Took a trip to PC World expecting to see the same price there but no - €109.99. So we went to Dixons today and the situation was the same. Bro took one to the counter where he was advised of the real price but they 'gave' it to him for €74.99 :)

Might be worth a shot. I reckon whoever was sticking the labels on didn't realise the difference between dual and single layer burners. The Emprex single layer burner is €74.99 in PC World.

So maybe your local Dixons' staff are interviewed to the same standard as the one's in The Square. Have a try.

[Edit: Needless to say they had removed all of the €74.99 stickers by the time we left the store]

You ruinned it for the rest of us .. you and your greed! :D:D

Remember in PC World (owned by Dixons) in Limerick last year I was helping my computer illiterate friend buy a network card for her laptop and they had a card marked about €20 cheaper than what it should have been. They tried to say it was a mistake, that the correct price was in the computer, but my friend (studying business and law in UL) was having none of it and we got it for the cheaper price. Just goes to show what you can get if you keep an eye out, and never underestimate the ignorance of staff in computer stores :D

Could be. Emprex had a burner a while back that was advertised as a "dual burner" (not dual layer, by "dual burner" the box meant "writes DVD+r and DVD-r) so that might be the reason for the mixup - if Emprex have now decided not to have misleading boxes it's probably a Very Good Thing indeed.

Obviously the standard of lecturing in Contract Law 1 in UL has dropped since I was doing it many moons ago - the higher price marked on the box was an invitation to treat rather than an offer and the retailer was under no obligation to sell it at the lower price or indeed at any price (relevant UK case followed here is Pharmaceutical Society of GB v Boots Cash Chemists (Southern) Limited [1953], which your friend could do well to read before the exam). Still, kudos for arm-chancing and winning, as you say, never underestimate the ignorance of staff in computer stores - not all of them took the time out to do business and law in UL (or maybe they were missing the day of that lecture too).

I'm aware that's the going online price for this kind of kit but when that kind of price is seen in a walk-in shop (especially like Dixons) I thought it might be worth keeping an eye out for. Save all that hassle with GLS :)
