How much electricity?

I was just wondering if anyone would know this:

Does a cable modem and wireless router use much electricity?
I would have both on for most of the day, and was wondering if this is costing me a fortune.
I would presume no because there are little or no moving parts involved, but I may be wrong.
Anyone know a bit more than me about this?

Doesn't use much electricity from what I'm aware. I can't think the kilowatt hours at the moment (what ESB pay their charges on) , but it's not much I don't think.

Look at the Adapter that you use to power them. Take the voltage and the ampage rating off them, multiply them and you have the Watts (power) they use.

Quick google for a kilowatt hour formula should help you turn that to kilowatt hours, then check your latest ESB bill for the rate ESB are charging at the moment.

I think I worked mine out to cost about €25 extra annually to run a modem, left on all the time. Of course, the wattage rating the modem gives you will be the maximum it will ever use - most of the time it uses a lot less power.
