Sky + & Contractual Question

    Good evening,

I was wondering could ye help me out, my parents are kinda of irritated at the mo with Sky. You see we got a Sky + box last July and availed of the second box deal in November. We did as told in regards to keep both connected to a phone line, but in the past two months we have recieved a letter advising us to make sure both boxes are connected. To our shagrin we realised one of the boxes wasn't connected, so I said we should get a new piece of bell wire as the previous had become damaged. My parents are of different opinion they want to get rid of the lot, and get Chorus of all companies. They feel they dont get enough out of it, as my brother and I watch nothing but sport. Now heres the question's , If we tell Sky we want rid of the service, are we breaking our contract(if so would in cur charges, on another note we are with them since 1999), and can we sell the boxes and dish. I was thinking we could get Chorus and maybe some good satellite equipment to pick up the sport on the European satellites.

I would really appreciate any advice and I already know how crap Chorus is, but my parents hold the purse string.

    Regards

    Wd

The sky+ box would have entered you into a 12 month contact agreement, afaik, so your contract will end in June. The multiroom would have had its own 12 month contract from novermber, but this will not affect it, as breaking your main subscription also terminates the multiroom without penalty. You're best off just sitting it out until June before cancelling, as sky will be very un-coperative in letting you cancel (that is, if they will even let you do that)

    Depends
Did you buy the box off the shelf yourself? if so no contract issues if not , well yess theres a problem.

You really will find chorus quite a come down in terms of channels and obviously in terms of its lack of sky plus recording niceness, poor interactivity, and quite frankly from my experience and that of many, many others, its woefull breakdown experience.

it dosent matter if a person buys their skybox of the shelf or not the contract term is tied to the subscription they must subscribr for 12months
    get your facts right

Uhm,thats not correct, you can purchase a sky plus box outright from an independent without being tied to a contract for 12 months.

but you need to subscribe (€15 a month, or get 2 premium channels) for the Sky+ features to work

Yes and if you have them already and you buy your sky plus box outright, you are not tied to a 12 month contract.
WillemD mentions that he has a phone line connected as per skys conditions which appears to be because he has a mirror sub for the second box since last november.

Theres not enough information in the original post to comment definitively on the contract issue-we would need to know if he had sky prior to getting sky plus because if he had and he had got the Sky plus box separately, then he may be out of contract and can cancel without penalty.
Thats why I said it depends.

buy the box off the shelf Sky dont own you (so to speak)

i asked them this when i got a secondary subscription for where i am living now, they said because i bought the equipment myself and Sky didnt subsidise it i am not tied to any 12 month contract
