I haven't bothered looking and while i agree that they probably shouldn't be allowed, it could be argued that you can avoid them by simply not clicking on the thread...

I have'nt looked (like why would I?). But if they are simply gratuitous violence designed to amuse/shock browsers then on balance I'd say no they should'nt be posted. While I'm agin censorship I belive in classification/restriction based on age, as After Hours is open house then the links should be removed.

    Mike.

I'm pretty sure those sort of vids are against the general rules of boards.ie.

    BAN THIS SICK FILTH NOW!

No really, do. That's just not on.

Thanks for the support on this.

While i see the logic in saying if you don't like it, don't click on it! But what's stopping Boards users posting porn / copyrighted material and saying if you don't like it, don't click on it!

These videos are just pure sick.. and i know if some young Board user clicked on it, they would get quite a shock! It's pretty different (and much more shocking) to the 'cartoonish' violence in GTA / Manhunt etc.

    you're right....

Are these video's even legal to be shown/posted here?

Actually is there anyway to restrict certain threads based on age....or is it way too much hassle?

To be illegal they would need to be banned by Irish law or contain illegal images.

Tbh dont click on them if you dont want to see them, like you would turn off Binge Drink UK on Sky 1 every night you know what its going to contain so why click?

You have the power not to watch it so use it.

    Too much hassle.

Easiest way would probably be to get people to pay a small sum via credit card (to "prove" they're over 18) so they can be added to a special user group, but I dunno if the admins want to go down the route of providing that sort of stuff in the first place.

TBH, i have chosen not to bother watching these videos but surely if they contain people being assualted or whatever that's illegal.

But i suppose boxing is people assualting each other too, innit?

Or what all those porn sites do and say click here to swear you're over 18.....so i've been reliably informed, ahem!

I'm really pi**ed off at seeing these 'beatdown' threads containing truly sick videos of people being beaten to a bloody pulp.

    Such as: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=234629 and http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=232481

    It's horrible..

Anyone agree with me and think these sorta videos should be specified in the charter as being against the rules?

I never seen those threads before but I have now. I don't think it should be banned. I think we've all seen a lot worse than that but I do understand that it might not be suitable for some.

The first one in particular is genuinely nasty.

Shouldn't be banned. Boards.ie should just have a big old warning thing for when you register here, saying something like:
"We are not responsible of what users post."

    And Basquille:
"and i know if some young Board user clicked on it, they would get quite a shock!"

Are you serious? When you say young, what age are you implying? I think the only age of a child that would be "shocked" from it is a 5 year-old or younger.

Your reasons seem old-fashioned. Kids have seen alot worse, especially if they have the internet in the first place.

While i agree with the sentiment and wish that such a warning was enough, unfortuenatly under (the ridiculous) irish law, the owners of Boards are deemed responsible for everything published

Boards.ie, in fact, directly responsible for what users post.
In the eyes of Irish law boards.ie is a publisher; as much as any newspaper or magazine.

People young enough to be offended by this should not have unsupervised access to the internet! , if they do it's the parent's fault! Plain and simple!

Adult's who are offended by this should really go out and live in the real world as there is nothing that is taboo or indecent in it!.

You dont get sued for whatever you post, be it the most downright filthy, depraved and immoral crime against human dignity, Boards.ie does. Warnings like you propose dont change that. The law is an ass.

oh deear, some not so bright people in this thread.

Actually is there anyway to restrict certain threads based on age....or is it way too much hassle?

Why should they retrict it? They are not legally obliged to retrict. If someone wants to watch these videos they should be allowed. Its not against the law.

but surely if they contain people being assualted or whatever that's illegal.

How excactly is it illegal?! If you witness an assualt on the street, is you witnessing it illegal?! Are you meant to close your eyes and look away when a crime happens now?
Easiest way would probably be to get people to pay a small sum via credit card (to "prove" they're over 18) so they can be added to a special user group

So people should have to pay to prove they are over 18?! oh dear...

Once they videos are legal to show they should be allowed, which they are.

I never saw the video in the first thread, and the video in the second thread is more comical than violent, hence why I left it.

Like most other things, each one has to be taken as it comes. If the content isn't illegal, then I think "If I was 13, what would I think of this link?", and make my call based on that.

You do have a point there.. the second one is more comical. It was more the first video i was talking about.

The second one had no close-up's of bleeding out of orifices etc.

And violence like that would probably be lucky to scrape it into an 18's video... no, actually violence like that would get banned if in a movie out there.

its doesnt matter though, this movies dont have to be censored. "if's" arent counted.

Like those world wildest police videos. YOu see rights and people getting the head kicked of them, they are shown. And before the watershed.

No.. as seamas said, the second one is more comical than anything.

Take a look at the first video and then the second video.. there's a big difference between them.

i am not having a go, just point how the points you raised are incorrect, or unworkable at the very least.

feel free to try and explain them though, if i have got them wrong.

i have seen both(the second one is the mamma spalling the kid around yes?)

But how do you distinguish the difference? You can nit-pick each video and say "thats fine", "no thats to violent".

They be allowed or not allowed.

My convictions are that if its legal it should be allowed. Those arent the convictions of boards though. I am arguing why i feel they should be allowed. I am not arguing on behalf of boards.ie.

I will decide tomorrow, judging by the reactions from the PC band-wagon in here it wont be pretty.

It's great for you that you don't find these sort of things disturbing, I don't find them particularily disturbing either, but that doesn't mean I should go promoting this sort of idea.

Essentially, your argument is flawed in that boards.ie is aimed at a "General" audience, DeVore and the other lads have said so. Somethingawful and many other sites have all the vulgarity you want in bucketloads, I go there if I want to see "disturbing" or "twisted".

lol...take a bit more than some drunken insults to get me down...i'm also in 56k land but i have no desire to watch "real" violence. I see enough of that in town every night.

on the other hand i love entertainment promoting mindless violence such as the die hard films or the last bot scout.... ;)

how is it ill thought out?

I am arguing they should be allowed because they are not illegal. I think the your orgish videos should be allowed aswell.

HOw am i arguing on behalf of boardsie? i am not a mod, or an admin. I thought the point of the feedback forum is to get a view of the running of the website? or have i got it wrong?

People posted in this thread saying we it should be banned, i posted on why it shouldnt be.
