ear wax and hairy ears

I saw a girl last night witha filthy inner ear.It ws covered with brown/yellow wax. Obviously, she doesn't clean her ears with Q tips. Disgusting.anyone have probs cleaning their ears or have too much wax in them.

I'd like to know how do you cut the hair around the ear. Will a beautician do it?

I remember in Biology class in school being told not to cut the hairs in your ear, as they have something to do with your hearing and how sound is filtered into your inner ear. If you have excessive ear hair, there are trimmers you can get, but you should be careful with them.

As regards ear wax, I get my ears syringed twice a year to get that wax outta there. Its disgusting, and you can feel water sloshing around behind your eye (or at least thats the sensation you get), but it keeps your inner ears clean. When it comes to the earlobes, a warm wet facecloth can do the job grand. I dont like cotton buds though - I get paranoid that little strands of cotton are going to get stuck onto my eardrum when I use those. But maybe I'm just weird.

Remember kids, don't insert cotton buds into the ear. Its dangerous and you'll only push the wax further in.

AARRGHHH!!!! Twice a year!?!?!? I've had it done twice in my life (I'm 27).. and I'm not in a hurry to get it done again.. Fair play to you for going through that so often.. Mind you, it's probably worse the longer you leave it before getting it done again..

Its a pretty disgusting sensation, yah, but if you're like me, and it is apparently a genetic thing, its a necessary evil I have to get done every 6 months.

My Dad suffers very badly from excessive wax build up. The first time he ever got his ears syringed, a jelly bean sized hard pellet of compacted wax came out of each ear.

Sounds like someone telling you porkies!

People who smoke, anything whatsoever, *may* have more nasal hair than normal- as it is stimulated to trap fine particulates from the air as you breath and provide you with (relatively) cleaner air.

I had a hole in my ear drum when I was a kid and the doctor thought it was wax build up so he syringed it with one of the old metal syringes :eek: sore.

apparently its not good thing to syringe your ears all the time, the more you do it the more you need to do it. Mind you I'm not one to speak ... I'm not a doctor and haven't had trouble with my ears since the hole as a kid.

Embee, have you ever had your ears candled? I just ask as having them syringed can be a pretty awful experience, but having them candled can actually be kind of soothing. I had it done a few years ago to relieve sinus pressure and it was - dare I say it? - quite pleasant!

2 drops of warm olive oil before bedtime.
and insert cotton wool in the ear drum before sleep.
in morning all the wax will be in the wool
