UK Sky Card Only Working Via "Other Channels"

I already have a UK Sky card to receive ITV1, Ch4 and Five, which works fine. However, a friend of mine bought one on e-bay last week and when it arrived it could only receive these channels by using the "Other channels" option. There is nothing on Channels 103, 104 or 105. He can pick up ITV2 on 118 fine. Any ideas why this might be or how he can view the channels without having to use "Other Channels"?

Yeah Digiworld, tell us all how we can receive the uk channels on an Irish card.

Power off the digi-box, and then power back on while holding in the back up(on box) button. If this doesn't blow up your digi-box it just might work.

I just want to clarify: My friend has a UK card along with his Irish card. He is living in Ireland and he can view ITV, Channel 4 and Five with it but only via the "Other Channels" option. He's asking me about it and to be honest I never heard of this before.

Sorry I did not read your original post properly as I was distracted by what digiworld was saying.

This has happened me a number of times. What needs to be done is a call has to be made to get another signal sent to the card. What has happened was the signal was initially sent but the region signal did not get set. This is the signal which put up the correct version of BBC ONE and ITV. If he has the name and address of the registered owner of the card, call the FTV helpline and while on the phone, the epg will update. Its an instant signal which is sent.

In fairness, e-Bay is where I got my own card from about a year ago. No problems at all. However there are bad stories in other threads here about some.

I will let you all know how I get on with the ftv card.

I obtained a freesat card from one of the websites. (They sent it registered post so it ended up going on a tour of Dublin before I eventually got it) When I eventually got it delivered initially the UK EPG came up but none of the other stations were unscrambled except for one test frequency I had previously tuned in of ITV which was immediately unscrambled. So I was a bit concerned to say the least.

But over the next few hours the other channels became unscrambled first on "Other Channels" and then on the EPG proper. However it was necessary to leave the card in the box overnight for this to happen. And I understand that this may happen again if I dont use the card for a few weeks in which case I just pop it in for another night and it will be fine.

No problems since then even when I recently upgraded to sky plus. Evidently the newer freesat cards are not paired with the box but the older free to view cards are.

I think it would be just too dangerous to ring sky if you have a free to view card and risk them switching it off just because it cannot be viewed on the EPG.

    Hope this helps
