I'm new to the Mac scene only got my mac mini a month or so ago. I have a problem with Windows Media Player. It wont open for me at all, just sits in the dock and does nothing. Ive read up a bit on the net about fixing software problems in Mac oSx and First Aid and Repair permissions have been 2 things ive tried with no luck. Are there any Mac experts out there that can tell me how to fix this problem. Tia

What happens when you click on its icon ? It should bounce up and down and then the prog should open with the top bar changing to "Windows Media Player".

An indicator that it's open is a small black arrow under it's icon on the dock, are you seeing this?
Did the machine come with WMP or did you install it youself ?

You can cycle through open programs by holding down the Apple key (beside spacebar) and tapping the TAB key.

It bounces up and down in the Dock but there is no small arrow under its icon. I installed WMP myself. Its not opening at all because its not in the Force Quit list of programs running.

Are you sure it's compatible with your OS?

What OS are you running and what WMP is it?

Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling ? Is this the first version of it to be installed on your system ? The icon on the dock may be for an older installation of the app, have you tried running it from its directory in the Applications folder instead ?

It doesn't seem to come wih an uninstaller so go to File > Find and search for "media player" , try removing just the preferences file and see if it will open then, if not remove it completely and reinstall a fresh copy from the download site.

Forget about the WMP icon in the dock for a moment and go to your Applications folder and click on the application icon directly. If it starts then you know the problem is in the dock icon - which you can remove.
If it still doesn't work when you click on the application icon directly then I would suggest delete and re-install the application.
