Backlash always pushes local talent, so you know when we book international guests then it’s something really worth your while. Last year, bringing Jacques Lu Cont & Chicken Lips to Wax was a real coup and a great night for everyone who was there. So in 2005, we’ve got a lot to live up to.

That’s why we’re proud to announce that we've managed to coax longtime Backlash favourites Black Strobe to the Pod for a St. Paddies Eve party. It’s the Strobe’s first ever DJ set on these shores, and anyone who’s heard the screaming highs and dark gothy lows of their amazing Essential Mix will know that this is going to be something very special; the Black Strobe Decks/FX show has to be heard to be believed!

Black Strobe burst onto the scene in with “Innerstrings”, released on Trevor Jackson's Output label in 2000. Championed by DJs including Andrew Weatherall, Laurent Garnier and DJ Hell, it was a good indicator of acid-disco things to come. Ivan Smagghe soon gained an awesome reputation as a DJ, releasing 3 massively lauded mix CDs, while Arnaud Rebotini remained the mysterious presence in the shadows. Later releases such as “The Abwehr Disco” and a downright evil remix of Tiefschwarz’s “Ghost track” showed a darker more furious side to Black Strobe, marking them out as one of the hottest acts in electronic music in 2005. As demand for this show will be high we have moved from our regular venue of Wax to the newly refurbished POD to take advantage of its extra space and VERY LOUD sound system!

Join us on Paddy’s Eve for what is sure to be one of the gigs of the year,
Support on the night comes from Backlash DJ's Jon Averill & Steve Reynolds as well as Romo & Chewy doing there thing in the bar.
