    Hi,

I'm moving to Kilcock which is an area serviced by Chorus Digital via a mesh aerial on the roof tops. I have had a good look through this forum and have read a lot of negative stuff about Chorus Digital. Just wondering if they have improved recently particularly in the Kildare area, and if there is anyone that is happy with their Digital service?

    Thanks.

I'll move this to the cable/mmds forum

If you do a search there you will find a lot of bad press for chorus.

seems to work ok if you are in a strong signal area otherwise stay clear of it.

I worked for Chorus for a while as an installer up where you are Finn Dub and trust me you are only getting yourself into deep deep water. The company is full of Chief's and not enough indian's, if you get my meaning. You will be dealing with operator's whom were once postmen, waitresses, shop assistant's, hairdressers, etc. They are just dragged in off the street and placed behind a phone so god help you if you have any breakdown's. The digital system is no comparison twoards Sky's digital system. You will only have half the channels for the same or even more subscription rate. On a big tv, the picture is very pixelated. No interactive services nor can you 'book' a movie without phoning up some muppet in roxboro.
That's just my two cents, I wouldnt waste my time.

Have had reasonable experiences with both Sky and Chorus. Apart from both losing channels on the odd time I have never really had any trouble.
But then again, its the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, its rare that anyone working perfectly will write praise, but its very common for those that have had bad experiences to make their voice known.
Go with who you feel will offer you the best deal.

Hehe, do I sense some sour grapes there bigpaddy?

Well Jumpy, I was a customer and also an engineer for them. Granted every large company has there up's and down's, but to be fair about it Chorus are using equipment which is nearly 20 years old. There headends are a laugh just thrown together with no plan of action at all. They allow up to 200 subscribers relying on one person for reception, Thats just the start of it, need i even go into customer services, breakdowns, etc.....
Sorry but I have no good experiences, i regret ever going near them.

Just got rid of Chorus digital for Sky digital. Sky is far superior. The Chorus box is a bit annoying, takes about 3-4 seconds to switch channels, there's no channel listing like on Sky's box or anything like that. Plus, it's slightly more expensive for less than half the channels. There were also a few service outages, couple of days at a time, in the last few months.

Add to that, as has been said before, Chorus' customer service department is, how shall I put this so as not to be libelous, incompetent.

My dad has their MMDS service and pays €270 a year for 7 channels, which is a joke. Plus it keeps breaking down and they remove channels etc.

I wouldn't recommend Chorus in a fit, unless you really, really, reeeeeeaaalllly need Channel 4 and UTV. Which nobody really does. Buy an FTV Sky box from the UK if you must have them though, better than give you're money to Chorus.

The point you have just made is very misunderstood by most people. When you have Chours installed, the equipment belongs to chorus. If there is ever a problem, they are obliged to come & repair it as it does belong to them.
On the other hand with Sky, the satellite equipment belongs to you & not sky. Whom ever installed it for you does not work for Sky, and they are also obliged to look after the system for you for the 1st 12 months. This is not Sky's problem, they are only providing the viewing card with your subscription on it.
