Sinn Féin has confirmed that two of its
members are among six people arrested
    in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, this
    morning.

The men are being held in connection
with an incident in the town on Monday
night in which a couple were allegedly
threatened by a group of men claiming
    to be from the IRA.

The men, all from the Manorhamilton
area, were arrested under the Public
Order Act this morning and can be held
for a total of 12 hours.

Two of them are being questioned by
gardaí in Sligo, two in Manorhamilton
    and two in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The incident occurred in a pub in
    Manorhamilton.

It is alleged that a man and woman were
threatened by a group of men who
accused them of drug-dealing and told
them they had a number of days to get
    out of town.

The couple were said to be very
    frightened by the incident.Gardaí have
launched a full investigation and say
    locals have been very co-operative.

Another blow for Sinn Fein, any views?

From listening to East coast fm news this afternoon, it's understood to have been a misunderstood joke.

Yeah, they would now when they are being questioned by Gardai. However, the 6 people left two very frightened people behind on Monday night, who felt intimidated enough to call the Gards after much thought. Funny prank.

I think the triviality of the situation can be seen in the fact that the police didn't arrest them under the Offenses Against the State Act which is nearly always employed in cases of a subversive nature. The guards themselves aren't taking it very seriously so I don't think anyone else should make a big deal about it really.

Yeah but it does show a lack of grey matter especially on behalf of the Sinn Fein members even if it was a joke considering all the hassle recently.

If 2 men were arrested, one would think that they were identified. Now; doesn't the IRA wear balaclava's in such situations?

As for the drugs thing -v- prank; you mention prank, and everyone laugh & goes home. They (the victims) are not going to say "it was really about the drugs"...
