Nah, the site just hasnt been updated since it was first put up. That will change. Either that or they'll have no customers....

If you do a network search, you will see they cover quite a bit of Dublin..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭byrnefm

How are you searching for their network? I did a search but only got the regular three networks. Will they only show up (in a network search) if you've a 3G phone?

Correct, the only oines I can find at the mo are Voda and O2 . Three have never appeared on any search I did so its safe to say they are not even testing yet.

So nobody knows when they're going live?

I know they still have to have thier new website designed for Ireland and numbers are going to be 083 but was wondering if anyone knew of dates? I'm guessing 2-3 months?

Will be the summer before they go live. The only certainty is that it will before Xmas..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,523 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

So i guess that fits in. I hope they dont do a meteor half assed job at the start and only cover the GPO to start with and work outwards. :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,523 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

If 3 Ireland are going to be 083, who took 084?

I heard a rumour that Eircom did on the off chance they manage to get back into the mobile market. This could well be total rubbish and 083 lends itself far better to "3"s marketing plans!

Ah i got the answer but cant tell ye :( just to say it was one of the dates i posted above and have now removed.

So nobody knows when they're going live?

According to Comreg they have been live for over a year now and are therefore fully compliant with their licence conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,523 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

You know what i mean live to the public.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭d-j-k

As far as I know 3Ireland http://www.3ireland.ie/ are still testing. Their website hasn't been updated in ages though but I assume they'll be launching something soon.

They signed a deal with Vodafone to give them national GSM roaming, similar to the deal Meteor signed with O2 to fill in their coverage gaps.

The roaming agreement with Vodafone is for GSM / GPRS only though. They will not be able to roam on Vodafone's 3G network

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,523 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Correct they will have full coverage from day one. Thats a good start anyways. They will be live in the next < 4 months i have the date (was told yesterday in work) but tis a secret.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭d-j-k

Well they'll have full voice and GPRS coverage from day one. 3G services will still be pretty patchy until their network rolls out fully.

It'll be nice to see the market spiced up a bit again. There's very little sign of serious competition. Even meteor seems to have started to relax.

Are there any signs of any virtual mobile networks appearing. Comreg ruled that O2 and Vodafone have to allow them to use their networks. I know eircom were looking into launching a service.

According to ComReg's website they are 083

Loads of number ranges reserved in the 083 code:

    E.g

    083 3000000 to 3099999 Hutchison 3G Ireland Ltd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,889 ✭✭✭cgarvey

    Slight typo there d-j-k ...

    3000000 - 3099999
    3100000 - 3199999
    3300000 - 3399999

    .. and for Voicemail (presumably)...
    50000000 - 50099999
    53000000 - 53099999
    53100000 - 53199999
    53300000 - 53399999
    .cg

Is it just me, or is their range of phones in the UK basically crap?

The only one that would remotely appeal to me is the Motorola E1000..

Theres a limited number of 3g phones available at the min, and the better ones (6630 and v800) are vodafone exclusives atm afaik.

I, on the other hand have no problem being biased. If everyone else had the same opinions as me (which they should) there wouldnt be any problems.

well to be fair it sounds like they are on schedule as regards network rollout, if they do indeed have 50% coverage now. Just looks like they were VERY late starting.

As i mentioned in another thread it looks like they have started doing some market research so obviously the wheels are in motion anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭KillerShamrock

I know this is an old thread but its better to bring up an old one than start a new one. Anyway I saw a 3 Ireland ad today so maybe they will be startin sooner than november. Checked the web site but nothing has changed on but you never know

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,858 ✭✭✭paulm17781

Where did you see the ad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,264 ✭✭✭JBoyle4eva

I was just watching E4 and saw an ad for Three, the network. And on the bottom of the ad, www.3ireland.ie !!

    It's coming.......but when?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,982 ✭✭✭mik_da_man

That ad has been on RTE for a while now,
not too sure if it mentioned the site before, but defo the ad with the aisian girl has been on rte before.

As for them going 'live' here according to reports it will be about 4 weeks (@ least) prob more, but as a heavy voda user i will be really intrested to see what they can offer me

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,982 ✭✭✭mik_da_man

the ad was on RTE @ 1/2 time in the pool/milan match

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,858 ✭✭✭paulm17781

The "About 3" section of the website has been updated. Only says

"3, Europe’s leading video mobile (3G) network, today announced that it has appointed WHPR to handle its public relations as
it prepares to start offering services to consumers in Ireland later this year."

    So still no date
