Question: Coughs

Weird question, but I've always wondered this while I've had the cough and promptly forgot after. (I'm up atm, cause I can't sleep due to coughing)

Know when you get a nasty cough, and flem starts to appear? Is flem meant to be removed or left there....?

Odd I know. Still I don't know what is actually the case. Does flem actually help a cough disappear, or is it the bad **** that needs to be removed as it appears?

    Cheers for any info. :o
