Essential PS2 Games

What PS2-only games would someone deem essential classics. I've just recently acquired a PS2 (already have an Xbox) and am interested in exploring the back-catalog. I've heard great things about Ico, and of course GTA San Andreas.


But what else?

PADDYPOKER

ICO is class but very hard to get a copy with the art cards.
Becoming a collectors item.
GTA SA is also a must have but
depends on what type of games you like playing?

I like to play any kind of game that's good. I can get my hands on a copy of Ico easily enough. Don't really care about art cards. But what other games are there. Surely there's more than 2 games as a reason to own a PS2.

the games you mentioned, are available on the xbox, ps2, gamecube and pc. ie multiformat. i'm interested in ps2-only games.

Because I have an xbox!!! I want to know if there's a fúcking reason to own a PS2 as opposed to an xbox. That's why I mentioned games like Ico and GTA San Andreas above. Any game I want on the Xbox I have, that includes multiformat.

Sure there is a better reason to owning a PS2, as there's more titles available for it. Also many multi-platform games will vary slightly from platform to platform, for example in splinter cell, some levels on the xbox are not on the PS2 and vice-versa.

With GT4 out now, all the more reason to get a PS2! *enough said*

Probably GT 4

The fact of the matter is there isn't that many great PS2 only games my advice would be to get a cube unless you have one, so many origional titles, most PS2 games will be available on your XBOX anyway, just read review before you buy a game for the cube there are so many stinking piles of ****, but there is those about 20 gems that reek of origionality fun and diffence that you wont get playing a PS2, plus GTA : SA will be out on the XBox and PC in the summer. So buy cube + Mario Kart DD, Super Smash Bros Melee, Metroid prime 1 + 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Viewtiful Joe , Resident evil 4 gamecube exclusive in about a months time , Zelda the Wind Waker + four swords adventure and so many more.

P.S no i don't work for nintendo:)

All worth checking out. Especially Red Faction - I loved that game so much! Id give a better list but im in a big hurry

red faction is available on the pc, red faction 2 is on the xbox. Resident Evil Code Veronica is an old Dreamcast game, Soldier Of Fortune is on the PC.

What about games like Gradius V, Katamari Damacy, the Ratchet and Clank series - are these any good?

Ok Budokai 2 ( and 3 as well) now they are only on PS2 afaik,

Budokai the org is now on Gamecube as well , but Budokai 3 = the best beat em up i've palyed ( well i like Dragonball Z).
