I've been asked to come along to an interview for a summer retail job and i've been informed that part of the assessment process is a test comprising of a maths test and a "retail sales questionnaire".

Can anybody tell me what a retail sales questionnaire is like? Has anyone taken them before? I'd like to be prepared.

    thanks in advance.

Haven't a clue, but I found these online. Thought they may be of some use.
    Purpose

The RSQ has been designed to measure Customer Awareness in retail and other customer contact personnel. The RSQ defines this as an awareness of the customer's needs. The Questionnaire is in 2 parts, presented in a self-scoring booklet.
    Features

    # Provides a comprehensive guide to recruiting retail branch staff

    # Easy to use forms
    Description

The first part (Form R) consists of 12 sets of four descriptive adjectives. Candidates must rate the adjectives within each group as they feel each describes them. Within each group, the adjectives must be rated in order - the one that best describes the applicant is marked 1, the adjective that is least appropriate is marked 4 and the other two are marked 2 and 3 respectively. Thus within every group, one adjective will be rated 1, one will be rated 2, one will be rated 3 and one will be rated 4.

The second part of the questionnaire (Form S) contains fifteen multiple choice questions. Candidates should tick one answer only for each of the fifteen questions.

The RSQ is untimed, but is generally completed in under 10 minutes. Administrator's instructions are contained in the Manager's Guide and are included with each pack of forms. The instructions to the candidate are printed on the forms themselves.

Scoring is by means of the scoring key built into the NCR self-scoring forms. A norm table is provided in the Manager's Guide together with notes on how to interpret scores of different levels. Use of the results of the test alone is discouraged in the Guide and a framework is provided to enable recruiters to consider the RSQ result in the context of other data that has been assembled on each individual. An Assessment Rating Form is included in the Guide for this purpose.
The RSQ has been designed to measure customer awareness in retail and other customer contact personnel. The RSQ defines this as an awareness of the customer’s needs.

Hope this somehow helps. It sounds like they want to know how much you know of their products, etc, me thinks.

Good luck with the interview :)

I took a questionnaire before and it just asked general questions about customer service and how you would handle certain situations. i got asked about their range of clothes the shop had and what fashion trends were in at the moment

Eh, this is a bit off topic but I'm moving to Dub for the summer and am wondering where I should be applying for jobs. Are all the department stores a good bet?

    Just for a summer job?

Interviews for part time jobs are unreal in Dublin. In Cork I'd just go in, have a chat and get the job. Up here they're horrible! :(
