Luas Question

    Anybody know what those blue boxes with the little yellow bits on top that are mounted on chrome tubes are for?
    There is one situated at the beginning and end of each platform and they're on each side. Seen one today that had some sort of digital display on the front of it.

    They are something to do with the new Integrated ticketing system. You will have to validate your integrated ticket when you board a bus, luas, train or dart. AFAIK you will do this by passing it over such boxes, it is a swipe-type card such as you might see for gaining access to buildings, etc - i.e. you do not need to take it out of your wallet, etc. I think I have seen preparations on buses to put similar devices over the existing ticket validators. I assume the existing validators will be withdrawn, or are DB going to retain their own ticket system to operate alongside the integrated system?

    I liked the posters they had up regarding them. Had a picture of them with a question mark over the screen, accompanied by a "coming soon to luas" or something like that. They did just seem to appear. Not sure of the point of them really.

    Yeah I think you're right. Had a closer look at them this morning and on the screen it "Present Ticket Here" so it's definitely some type of swipe system.
