InfraRed question

    Hi all.
My mobo manual and Device Manager in Windows says that I have an InfraRed Port on my mobo. Does this mean that I should be able to transfer data from my phone. I tried before but it never found any other device. Or is that I'll have to get an IR adapter (a USB one).
    Thanks

Some mobos have the controller for an IR port built in but don't have the actual transmitter/reciever. This lets the manufacturer easily offer 2 versions of the board, one with and one without IR. The manual covers both versions, they don't bother making changes to it. Windows may also detect this controller and not realise that there's no transmitter/reciever attached. It sound like your board is like this, which is probably why it can't find your phone. You'll probably have to get another one, a usb one would be good because you'll have to point your phone directly at it so it'll be handy if you can sit it on your desk or on top of your PC. Keep in mind that depending on your make/model of phone you may have to get special software to handle the data transfer.

    Thanks for the advice.
What you said sounds spot on. I have the software that came with the phone so I'll get an external transmitter.
    Thanks again
