    I have a bit of a problem.

Just recently, my cd and dvd rom drives have uninstalled themselves from my pc. The drivers show as corrupt in the device manager and are not installed. When I try "Roll Back Driver" or "Uninstall", Win XP can never find the drivers for them. As far as I know, XP should install plug and play devices such as these.

Now ive been googling and I cant find downloadable drivers anywhere for my 2 drives. If anyone can tell me where to download them Id much appreciate it.
    the models are:

    Sony CDRW CRX225e
    Sony DVDRW DRU 510a

All help really appreciated, thanks in advance.

They don't need drivers at all, try maybe deleting them out of device manager and rebooting. Also check that your BIOS is detecting them both, most BIOSes list detected optical drives on boot, otherwise go into setup and check there.

You say you have done all that (i take it you mean removing from the device manager) but just in case you havent, have you tried removing the IDE channel from teh device manager?

    To find it:
    Open up your device manager
    View -> Devices by Connection
    then expand:
ACPI uniprocessor PC -> Microsoft ACPI compliant system -> PCI bus

Remove the secondary IDE channel and then refresh. Might bump something along (and force a driver reinstall?)

This is what I did to try rectify the problem:

    1) Uninstalled from Device Manager and tried to Reinstall
    No joy.

    2) Checked the BIOS to see if they were still detected - they are.

    3) Unplugged IDE cables and replugged - no joy.

I will try the RegPatch later when I get home from work.

I dont know if this is related, but around the same time of this problem, when I double-click My Computer, it asks me whether I want to Work Offline (similar to webpages). I click Work Offline, then My Computer opens as normal.

I've run in to this problem on numerous occations when customers etc have had a boot sector virus on their machines. A good way to check if the CD / DVD is actually working is to just try to boot up on a bootable CD.

If this is the case, make sure to run an up to date virus scan...

I had a similar problem when adding dvd drive on my pc. The problem was with the jumper settings. Make sure you have one as master and the other as the slave drive. Hope this helps............

    Hi,
2 Things I Would Do First

1:if They Are Sharing The Same Ide Cable Unplug One And If This Works Advise(if Not Replace Cable Using 1 Drive Only)

2:do You Know How To Reset Cmos?

    Do Both And Advise Outcome.

I had the same prolem on an old sh!tty pc i got a while ago. Kinda similar, one day my cd drive just vanished from my computer, even tho it could still open/close spin up/down, but it still wouldnt work. Tried everything including full format & reinstall, still didnt fix it tho :(
