Don't have to be a citizen, just have to be eligible to be a citizen - that's why they're advertising here...

The NYPD is making history by making New York the safest city in America and you can be a part of it.

I'd definitely be interesteed in that if I was eligible.
POrobably advertising here because there's a traditition of having Irish police in America. Think the head of the police there is an Irish guy who wasn;t tall enough to be a guard.

That's exactly the go getter attitude they want in the American Police force!

believe it or not, NYC IS safer than Dublin.. go figure

Dublin City Centre (IMHO) is perfectly safe though. You really have to be looking for trouble or desperately unlucky to have any problems.

I know a few people who got jumped on "for no reason" - but with a bit of prodding I've always found they either insulted someone or started the trouble.

    Yeah seems weird doesn't it?
Can they not find enough people in the hugely populated city of New York?!
Maybe they know something we don't.

That includes overtime and such aswell don't forget. A cousin of a friend of mine is a retired cop in NY. He just worked his ass off for the 20 years to get promoted as high as he could so now he is retired he's got a pretty good income.

New York is huge. Those of you who felt safer there than in Dublin were probably in Manhattan rather than the Bronx.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭FX Meister

No, I've been all over New York. And I've been attacked once while in a particularly bad part of the Bronx. I still found it safer than Dublin. And for you to presume the Bronx is unsafer than Manhattan is just ignorant.

Don't be Chinese - there was a thread on the work board about the green card lottery that had the requirements.

Again it's not always the case and depends on what part of Harlem, I've been in dodgy parts od Spanish Harlem during the day and had no probs.

Plus they dont touch the cops, there are posters everywhere saying 1800 cop-shot offering a $50,000 reward for any information on a cop being shot.

hmm that is usualy the case but i have seen exceptions ..

but my point is more to do with numbers..

How many peeps in dublin ?
    How many in NY ?

and how many fights can you see in one friday night in both cities, only staying to the main stream bars/clubs ?

Dublin looses the population , but wins in the fights ... now that is scary :(

    OK, point taken :)

But Dublin is lovely compared to somewhere like... Cork. I was down there for a weekend a little while ago... what a bunch of animals!

Don't get me wrong, I love Cork, but I'd never seen so many aggressive, drunken imbreds in my life...

Yeah, I've never been, I was just basing it on the telly. But now you've backed it up so I guess my ignorance has now become intuition. Go me!

I found New York very safe when I was there this summer, plenty of late night ramblings, but there is a massive police presence.

    Recent Weekly Crime Stats

Look at the historical perspective, crime in general is down by some crazy percentages, since the implementation of zero tolerance.

    Most Wanted

I always find it fascinating to look at the most wanted lists, they are all from minority groups, and on an average night in Manhattan you encounter people resembling at least half if not more of those in the above link. All hispanic or african-american too.
