    Hi
Im New to macs, just got new mac mini, and I have a question i hope you can help me with.

I have a folder on the desktop called "myDocuments" to which i save my work.I wish to backup/copy the folder/contents onto CD-RW,or DVD-RW.I have a superdrive in the mini.

I do not understand the "image " feature in OS X 10.3.7 and am having difficulty in doing this.Do I have to format the disk ( as is the case in windose!) ?

On my pc i also have a my docs folder on the desktop which I open/select all/send to E:,
this then copies all files in that folder to the E drive media.
How do i do this in Panther on the mini.

BTW a world without viruses, spyware and blue screens of death was well worth the euros.....I love apples!

    Thanks in advance
    Eirlink.

You should have Toast, in your applications folder(from Finder hit apple+F then type toast)
Therell be tabs saying data, audio, video and copy....choose data, drag your documents folder into toast and click burn, simple. :D

Theres no need to create images, images are really 'imaginary'disk drives, in other words i can mount 3 images of 3 different dvds and have them all play without any disk actually being in the drive, if you know what i mean??Somebody could probably explain it better :o

Sorry thats just the way I do it.
It can be done through Finder aswell, just find the documents folder and copy it(Apple+C), then put disc in, double click on disc icon, paste(Apple+V)...right click and select burn.

Put a blank CD or DVD in the drive, when asked what to do with the disk select Open In Finder (i think ?) This makes the disc available on the desktop, Now just drag the files you want to save to the disc icon and drop them. When you're finished click once on the disc then click File > Burn Disc.

    Thanks Zener,
Have managed to do this but when i eject disk and then insert it again i cannot drag new docs i create,to its icon on the desktop.
    The message is
"the item " New Documents" could not be moved because "xxxx" cannot ne modified"

xxxx is the name i gave the inserted blank cd.

I would like to copy my docs folder to the cd-rw,burn it,eject, and re do this over again the next time i create new docs.
    any further help is appreciated

    thanks again

This is what you need then, it's free too !!

OS X can't do what you're describing. When you insert a blank discc - be it CDRW or CDR - an icon appears on your desktop with the letters CDR in it. For a CD-RW to be used as such you must erase the disc in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Then the disk will appear with the correct "CDRW" representation.

Sorry for my first post, I must learn to read one of these days . . .

OR it could be to do with the fact that OSX doesnt burn multi-session discs through Finder as default(dont know if it can, never use Finder)

    Try this http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7949

Get yourself a .Mac subscription download BackUp and save to any media including your 250Mb iDisk on Apple's servers.

How about a USB memory key, 256 Mb for under the 50 euro mark if you shop around. Try peats.com. It has changed my life
