H&M Dundrum

I do some work in fashion and as because of this I've had a chance to handle some H&M stock over the last 2 years. I've also visited their London branches. And am aware that they have some beautiful and very competetively priced stock.

When I went to their Dundrum store last night I noticed that almost everything they were selling was old stock. The styles on display were very haphazard, with no general theme as is normally obvious in clothing stores. There were tops and and skirts I had handled nearly 2 years ago for sale at full price.

Now I have no problem with old clothes, plenty of clothing bought 2 years ago is still fantastic and I got nearly all my favourite clothes 2nd hand. But it does bother me that H&M are taking advantage of the fact that this is their 1st store here to shift all the stuff that has all ready been reduced in the rest of Europe. Why should we be expected to pay full price for old stuff. If they wanted to try and get rid of it here they should at least have had an opening week sale.

I'd like to think it will backfire on them, I've seen some posts about how crap the store is, it would serve them right if people don't go back there in a hurry. But unfortunately judging by the size of the queue's I think they just made an enormous profit on the leftovers that the rest of Europe didn't want anymore.

    It makes me so mad!

If that is indeed the case, then it's a big pity. I always visit H&M anytime I'm abroad.

My sister love H&M too although I never see what her fascination is. They are huge an international and EVERYWHERE in Europe. its good they have come over here.

My favourite store is NewYorker - but the odds of them moving here are slimmish.......

Are the prices in the Irish one as low as abroad?

    Doubtful. Extremely, extremely doubtful.

Bought some nice stuff in H&M abroad recently. Great store, pity if it is old stock here in one way but then again my new stuff won't be as 'common' here :p

    It is what it's.

H&M Store looked great this morning i have to say. Never been in one abroad but i hope that's not the case, as the prices seemed good.

Went to the shopping centre this morning. Can't say anything for the ladies gear but the mens where was junk and for what it was the prices weren't wonderful.

my girlfriend who is from europe reckons the H&M here stocks different clothes to the european ones - i.e. irish/british fashion instead of what they'd wear in europe (ladies fashion is quite different there, not as over the top or ridiculous looking). Is this true? I should post a thread about how women dress here actually, they dress so bad it's embarassing in my opinion.

You konw there's a fashion forum on boards, right? That would be a good place for such a discussion.

I agree with you - French and Italian clothes and fashion magazines are so much better than the English ones we get bombrded with here.
