Connecting 2 laptops over a college network?

Knowing the IP of both what is the best program or method for sharing files between the two?

I tried WInSCP but it requires a login and password access. This is not a problem when logging onto my linux desktop but doesn't seem to work when accessing a machine running Windows.

Why are you making it more difficult on yourself by using the college network?!?!

I they are two laptops why not just connect directly?

Cus the laptops are in docks at separate sides of the room and I want a solution that will just allow us to connect at any time and transfer etc.

I'm not familiar with networking at all. If i go 'Entire Network' should i see the other computer? Do i need similar workgroups or can i just type the ips in "Run".?

looking for the best solution really.

I presume your using this to transfer mp3's,porn,warez whatever. If thats the case a friendly suggestion again. DO NOT USE YOUR COLLEGE NETWORK
