Stolen Equipment and help

I had a lens and a flash nicked from my car last night. Pretty pissed as I only had them a couple of months. Now my problem lies here, I need this equipment for a job in under two weeks. Originally I had a mate buy them in NY and bring them home, so they only cost me €1000 as opposed to €1500 here in Ireland. If I buy them from NY and shipped here I figure I'll get raped by customs, but will it bring it up to the same price here in Ireland or will I still save some money. Failing that can anyone tell me the cheapest place to get a canon lens here in Ireland? It's the Canon 10-22mm. It's €950 in cons cameras, what a rip off. Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Well I for one still thing ordering in from the US would be the cheaper idea. If you can tho get the company to mark the lense that's getting sent through the post as a 'gift' otherwise yes, you will get raped by customs.

Any proper camera shop won't mark it as a gift. Customs are wise to this anyway.

Car insurance should cover the cost of replacing the equipment.
If not, trawl round ebay/camera exchange in town etc. for a second hand lens. It will be cheaper than a new one...

Not covered by car insurance. It's a new lens and most shops have to order it in so there's no chance of getting it second hand. Same for the flash too. As for ebay, I wouldn't trust buying something of this value from an ebay user.

    Sorry to here that FX

Have a look at the price on http://www.computeruniverse.net/products/e90119916.asp . I’ve got most of my equipment from them as they are very cheap (for a German based company) and also in my case take VAT off at source with a valid VAT number.

Here’s a comparison list from a European shopping site I find useful

Vat taken off at source sounds good as I can use my bosses vat number. I'll take a look, cheers.

Have you looked into your home insurance covering this? I've a few items covered by 'all risks' so they can be taken out of the house. Sort of cover you can have for a bicycle, sports gear, etc. I've had separate policies for the gear I've had but the recent renewal notice was coming in at nearly the same price as full home insurance.

They would have to be on the policy but they are not.

Paulj13, are these guys pretty reliable? I'm happy with their prices and delighted that the vat can be taken off at source. What kind of shipping to you get from them? I was gonna go for the UPS option, it's €60 though.

I've got all my digital kit with them and found them very good. Order a 20D with them before xmas and had it inside two days.

The online shopping features are very advanced with makes selection and purchase vary easy.

your right in thinking you'll get raped by customs I bought a Canon XL1 for €2000 from the states and got stuck with a €420 inport tax

whats more i bought the camera off ebay so it's not that dodgy to get pricey stuff from it just read all the feedback reviews that the seller has gotten and yer laughin

I'd just be worried of problems with the item if I got it from Ebay and needed to return it. But we did get a PD150 at work from ebay and apart from being a little worn it worked perfectly. I've ordered from that place in Germany and should have the items by next week. As soon as I can sell my Sigma Fisheye with a minolta mount I'm going to buy the canon mount one from them.
