Well i've finally taken the plunge and ordered a brand spanking new Sony PSP! I'm able to rationalise the purchase by telling myself that i'll use it as a protable movie & mp3 player too :) but to do this i'm assuming I need a pretty hefty size memory stick duo.

Can anyone out there whos got a PSP tell me whats the story with converting movies to play on them. Do I just run my existing Divxs through a converter program or I do need to re-encode or what? Finally can they be compressed to fit on a 512mb card along with my game saves or should I wait and try to get hold of a 1gb card?

I just ordered myself a 1GB Memory Stick Duo Pro from Komplett. That should give me at least 3 or 4 movies on it.

There is software out there [I dont have links to anything at the moment as I'm in work, but will try and link you later] which will convert your video to MPEG4 which is the format the PSP uses.

The size of the movie really just depends on what quality you want your video on. You can get 15min onto about 30mb on the lowest quality for example.

Cheers Winters! I was going to order a stick from komplett alright but I see they've now pushed back their release date for 1gb versions to April so i've just bought a 512mb one from Ebay.

    seems straightforward enough

    I used rapiz psp comverter(Link)

    Tips for Use:

    Use medium Video,
    Use 32kbps Audio,
    Use VBR 1 pass
    highest Res 417x176
Put the volume up to the max
    Use 29fps

This is a great mixture of good quality and small file size. Obviously do a few test runs before you do loads, actually put them on the PSP and make sure they run and the sound is fine.

I now have all 3 seasons of family guy on the PC and I just dump a few episodes onto it when i need them. When you are encoding them make sure you fill in the name as you want it to appear on the PSP, because you cant change them after.

    Good luck.
