does the pole need to be spot on 100% vertical for fiiting a motor to dish?

i have a free standing pole set in conc , but will sway a bit in winds and it is not 100% vert. ..... should i reset this pole?

Yep for correct tracking you need it to be vertical.

if the pole is a bit off vertical like mine, you can tighten bolts by different amounts to start off with to get motor vertical. then tighten all bolts slowly while you make sure motor is still straight with a level. it takes a bit of trial an error but worked fine for me ,can get all possible birds with my dish size from east to west.

can you let us know what satellites you recieve?and also what setup yoou have
im set up with a motor as well and can get
    -astra 2/eurobird/ 28.2 degrees east
    -astra1 19 degrees east
    -hotbird 13 degrees east
    -sirus 5 degrres east east.

signal strength for all of them is around 90-95% and quality is about 85-90%

Ive got an 80cm dish and wondering if there are other satellites i can tune into as well.

have the following satellites ,23 in total
    Panamsat 9 (58.0W) ,Panamsat 1R (45.0W) , Panamsat (43.0W) , Telstar 11 (37.5W) , Hispasat 2 (30.0W), Intelsat 605 (27.5W),
    NSS 7 (21.5W) , Intelsat 901 (18.0W) , Telstar 12 (15.0W) , Atlantic Bird 1 (12.5W) , Express 3A (11.0W) , Telecom/Atl-Bird (8.0W)
    Intelsat 707/Thor (1.0W) , Astra/Sirius (5.0E) , Eutelsat W3 (7.0E) , Eutelsat W1 (10.0E) , Hotbird (13.0E) , Eutelsat W2 (16.0E)
    Astra (19.2E) , Arabsat 2A,3A (26.0E) , Astra 2ABD (28.2E) , Eurobird 1 (28.5E) , Turk-/Eurasiasat(42.0E) .
once you have the dish set up right you can scan for satellites with your reciever very quickly and easily. most have no channels worth talking about but some show match feeds ,have a look at satfootball.com for info. i have the setup as in my sig. i can view rss feeds on my dreambox reciever which give sat, freq etc. for live sat feeds.eritrea tv on 26e sometimes shows good movies and soccer.

Fair play to you guys. You have just answered a number of my questions in just this one thread! I was going to ask what satellites one would hope to locate on a 80cm dish with motor in Lucan, Co. Dublin. Mayto - you in Dublin? Thanks

from athlone . i think i used a satellite around 6 degrees west as my true south.getting true south is the most important part in setting up the motor. i forget how i worked it out,but i remember doing some calculations to get it.

Indeed for me it was handy I used 8west as my true south satellite. Had a few strong transponders to lock onto as well.

    @ toonarmy
i actually used 8 west as my true south for athlone ,probably because it was nearest true south i could get on the day i set up motor. if you are well to the east atlantic bird 3 at 5 west may be better for you to use. the following channel mcm belgique ( 12543, Horizontal, 27500, fec 3/4 ) on 5w is fta and fairly strong signal . them cheapo satellite meters are great if you can get your hands on one.if you use 8w the fta channel kabelVision infodienst (11598.00, Horizontal , 27500 ,3/4) should do the job.
