I have booked a trip with aer lingus out 5th march home 15th, but im not sure if i can go home that day of different reasons.

I dont want to re-book the home ticket cos i dont know yet if im really going another day - so what i wonder is: Am i allowed to just ignore the home trip i have booked, and instead book a new single ticket home? Or will the airport keep track of my home trip and report me if im not going that day?

I'm citizen of a member state of the EU.

    Anyone did like this before?

    My trip is to Copenhagen.

There's no problem ignoring either journey. They have got the money already and can sell it to a standby passenger anyway. If you were sure of your return date you can probably negotiate transfering your return trip to another day, this being cheaper than buying a new single ticket.

Yup, new single ticket will be very expensive.

Not really that expensive - not more than half of the return ticket fare. Aer Lingus is really a good alternative when you want to buy single-way tickets.

BTW, what is the fee for changing date of flight with Aer Lingus?

50 euro + difference between old fare and new fare.

So that's the same fee as when changing NAME of the ticket holder?

    Correct.

50 euro per way, i.e. 25 euro on a single trip?

I had tickets with aerlingus for flights in february, and i wanted to change the dates. The explained that cost for changing the dates and suggested i just cancel the flights and book them again, it worked out cheaper that way. When you cancel the flights you get the tax back, the flights them selves had only cost me 5euro one way, so i lost about 20euro. I would have had to pay a total of 100euro if i had changed the flights. (2 people * 25euro + return)

    Thanks for the info.

Question 1. So the best thing for me to do is to turn my return ticket into a one-way ticket, ie cancel the flight home and get the tax money back, and then book a new one-way ticket home when I've decided to take that trip back? Or will the cancellation fee be higher than the tax (roughly 25euro) i get back?

Question 2. I booked with American Express and I have never had money credited to it before. Does it work out alright on Amex that the money I get back from Aer Lingus will be put as "plus" on my Amex? Might seem as a stupid question...
