Wales For The Grand Slam!

When wales took on England in the Millenium Stadium, i didn't know what to think. I knew wales had a good autumn, They trashed japan and romania (fair enough, there not the best sides in the world) but south africa and new zealand are, and to be beaten by a point or two in both games were remarkable results for wales. i knew they had a chance against england, and i prayed that they would beat them and then my prayers were answered in the form of Mr Gavin Henson. After that game, the welsh confidence went throught the roof and Mike Ruddock built on that and from that day, wales believed that they could beat anybody. Italy were next and when they got a try early on, people thought that wales were lucky in the england game, but wales showed heart and thanks to a superb performance from shane williams, tom shanklin from the player of the tournament so far, martin williams and they overpowered the Italians

Up next was Paris....... Nobody thought Wasles would beat France, in France but they did. Wales were battered in the first half and had to defend like never before to keep france out until half time. I dont know what Mike Ruddock did the dressing room at half time, but it worked. A superb second half performance from wales showed just what they are capable of doing, and they beat the french at their own game, by playing brutal hard hitting rugby!

Scotland are not going to be a problem.....let face it, Scotland are Rubbish! so it's down to ireland.

    March 19th
Millenium Stadium, Cardiff..... Be prepared to witness what is sure to be one of the greatest games of rugby ever seen. It will be brilliant and WALES will win. it will be close, but wales will win....

The Grand Slam trophey will be in wales that day..........AND TRUST ME, THERE NOT GOING TO LEAVE!

Huh? Good luck, because as far as I know you get nothing for winning the Triple Crown - it is an honorary title, unless the WRU make a new trophy, lol.

Well put it this way if you prayed for wales to beat england, you should start praying now! With players like SHane horgan and brian o D......Good Luck and the best team will win.

I think the Irish pack will outplay the Welsh giving us the advantage to utilise our backs. Very though match though but I think the Irish are too seasoned and experienced not to weather this storm. Ireland are used to winning, Wales aren't.

    But first, roll on France.

Oh and need I point out dinjo that Scotland has upset many of the safebet Grand Slams.

I think not - but it will be battle royale. Was at yesterdays match and Ireland look to be still playin 70% ish of their ability and they need to peak soon. Im sorry but if Ireland can play average and still beat "The world Champions" (sniggers) then what does that say about Ireland?

Not taking a thing away from Wales they are my next fav team next to Ireland. Was screaming for them to win against France. Martyn Williams for the Lions 100% the guy is the most underated back row in the game.

    Bring on the Millenium Stadium.

For the Grand Slam to be on the cards on the 19th March either or both of the following must happen :

Ireland to beat France in Dublin
Wales to beat Scotland in Murrayfield . .

We should take neither for granted . . . It's a rare old six nations where the scots don't cause some sort of Murrayfield upset !!

Agreed, I think Henson was exposed at this level for where he is.
(not what he is thats another thread).
His decision making may look good at CL and maybe HC level however on the international stage his light has yet to shine.

The Englanders think that it will come down to Wales Vs Ireland and Wales will win since they are playing better.

But we have the French up first and they could destroy us at landsdowne road. Or they might just be there to make up the numbers.

I think it will be the mother of all matches on the 17th of March. god I hope we win it this time !!!!!

Neither team will have a better chance for a long time.

    That'd be March 19th unfortunately :)

I don't know why everyone is getting worked about the match on March 27th but they seem to forget there's a little matter of a match on the 19th first and if it all goes to pieces against France then the 27th becomes immaterials. So guys one game at a time.

Dinjo, don't forget wales are having their first good season in a long time...we've had victorys against france and england home and away...our clubs have been the top in Europe for years, we've played and beaten the likes of south africa and australia...and narrowly lost away. We've been doing what wales are doing now for years...i know it's exciting when it happens and it's easy to get carried away...but wales are at least 4 or 5 years behind the development of Irish rugby (funny how they coppied the IRFU's provincal setup and rugby infrastructure when they were the worst side in Europe, now they're challanging for a grand slam :D) but dont be overly confident...dont get me wrong..its deffanatly possible, but Ireland would have a bad game to lose in Cardiff....we have the best backline in the world and a better pack than wales..where wales have quality players Henson, s Williams, Thomas, Ireland have D'Arcy, Hickie and Murphy easly as good, if not better on all 3 counts....dont forget we also have O'Driscoll, O'Gara, Horgan, O'Kelly, O'Connell (best second row in the world), and hayes (best prop in N.Hempisphere) Wales have world class players in their team...Irelands team is worldclass. It could be done....but even if i was neatruall...i would defenatly put my money on Ireland on expierience alone....never mind having a better team in every number 1 - 15.

[EDIT] Also Dinji, just to agree with Nukem...wales are playing their best possible rugby, and are at their peak, whereas Ireland have barely got out of second gear yet, and certainly havn't hit their peak form yet...do you honestly believe a side that can admit it hasn't played well will walk into a Wales GS decider worried? They'll know all they need is a solid performance to win. /me thinks you may be getting a bit worried about your earlier statement now :) You should be. Also England played their best game for 15 - 20 matches in Landsdowne road and Ireland were poor, we beat them by 6 points, and missed 9 simple points that would have been takin on another day. Wales had their best game in almost a decade (before the french game) against a poor english performance, and won by 2. I think if we beat France, we will win the GS, If we loose to France, we will win the triple crown and six nations championship.

your point is spot on. But Ireland can lose this game and win the champ by beating Wales. Irelands points diff should be better by the time the get to cardiff(or at least close enough so that a win overcomes any deficit)
