Trapped nerve in back

I've been suffering with a trapped nerve in my back for the last 8 yrs. It happened very easily playing football when I just turned slightly to the right while in a light jog.
At the time I got a few physio sessions and stretched for a week or 2 and the pain subsided for a couple of yrs.
It tends to come back evry year or 2 and a physio session or 2 with a bit of stretching normally keeps it at bay for another yr or 2.
In the new year, the pain came back again and I've had a few physio sessions since and try to stretch out and do exercises most nights but the pain doesn't seem to subside like it used to.
Somebody in work gave me the name of one of these "back quacks" in Westmeath. Said somebody he knew went before who could barely walk from a lwr back problem and has been fine since.
The guy is also advertising as a horse & human healer.
The problem I'm told is in the L4-L5 region and the pain shoots down to my lower right of my back and sometimes down to my hamstring area.

Has anybody any experience with these kind of healers or any recommendations for something better than just a physio so I can get this sorted once & for all.

I would continue going to a physio. You've no recourse if something goes wrong with a so called "back quack" as you go to them in the full knowledge that they've no qualifications etc.

    I wouldn't advise it.

Back problems always take time to heal, I'm only back training after 4 months out with a back injury. It's best to get it looked after by a professional and to just be patient. Your body will have changed over the past 8 years so you can't always assume that it'll heal or improve as it has done in the past.

Talk to your physio about it. If you're really not happy with your progress you're under no obligation to stay with your current physio, you could always consider a change.

sensible advice - remember physios specialise too and it may be good specifically looking for a physio who specialises in back pain.

    Hi,
Am posting this for a relative who has been suffering with an apparent trapped nerve with the last 4 weeks.
He has been to an osteopath which solved the problem for a little while but it has flared up again.
From what I have read, trapped nerve usually results in ongoing pain but in this case it occurs intermittently as very sharp unbearable pain lasting a few seconds to the lower back, resulting in him barely able to stand and sometimes falling to the floor.
He is a farmer and in the last week can work away on the farm without a problem, doing manual work etc with not a hint of pain but when he goes anywhere else (shop, someone elses house, or even meeting a visitor on the farm), the pain occurs immediately, seemingly the fear of it occuring in public is sending a signal from the brain to the affected nerve and causing him to collapse in a number of shops, etc the last few days. It is now at the stage where he is almost a prisoner on the farm. All he got from the doctor was a prescription for valium and little else advice. Just wondering has anyone here experienced anything similar to this before and how was it solved? I hope I have made it clear enough, feel free to ask questions, thanks in advance.

The bolded bits of texts sugegst that A) the diagnosis isn't definite and B) you're looking for a diagnosis here.

It's not safe for you or us to get into a situation where we give medical advice.
