Ethernet on iBook

Got a strange problem with a G3 iBook (girly blue one). It can't seem to maintain an Ethernet connection on the network. When I load up the network utility, it generally says the Ethernet status in Inactive. Periodically it switches to Active/100M for a couple of seconds, then back to Inactive. It used to work fine, and I don't recall doing anything that could have affected it. It's not the cable; I plugged the cable out of my PC and into it, and it was the same. I've tried wedging the cable securely into the socket in case it just loose, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. OSX 10.1.3, 196M RAM, 300MHz.

    Ideas?

    Hi Paul,
Where are you seeing "Active/100" ?
    Is it in System Config?

In the Network Utility application - the one that lets you ping, traceroute, netstat etc.

Oh yeah, I use that for lookup and whois.
After talking to the local Mac Mafia here, the general feeling is that it might be your network socket/board connector in the iBook. We're meeting later and I'll post any other suggestions or ideas.
