For each item of luggage to a maximum of 2 pieces carried in a taxi comes with a charge of 50 Cent.

What is a item of luggage?
Would purse or carrier bag count as an item of luggage?

I think generally, if it goes into the boot it's luggage, if it goes on your lap it's not. At least that's how it tends to work for me...

that's right - I used to drive a taxi and the rules are clear - items of luggage carried in the boot are charged per item. If you keep your stuff with you in the car, then you shouldn't be charged. However, some drivers will ask you to put suitcases or 'wet' in the boot 'to prevent damage to the upholstery'!

All bags are baggage. It is only luggage if it needs to the lugged around by the driver or put in boot.

There is a specific definition that used to be on the fare sheet when I drove a taxi (it used to be on the back IIRC). That gave dimensions etc. The Dublin City Council website only has the fare section of the sheet on their site. I'll see if I have any old fare sheets when I get home.

Why would they charge for luggage in the boot? What difference does it make? Do you have to pay more if you're fat?
Do you still have to pay if you put it in yourself?
