I personally find it somewhat vulger and ignorant to feel the need to parade your national flag in everyone elses face....but i suppose it's a matter of taste, i just think there are better ways to be patriotic, and even to show it off if you must.
But is it no suprise that it's only really the British who do it?
Not famous for there subtlety or respect for other nationalitys/cultures.

OMG why the hell do we want to copy the Englanders when they go on holidays.

I like being able to have a laugh at them wearing their union jack stuff, eating their fish and chips and watching only fools and horses in the English Bar in Spain. Why the hell did they bother going on holiday at all

The Irish Flag is a thing of beauty as a flag; as swimwear it sucks donkey balls, bigtime !

Canadians do it too.....ever see all the maple leafs on the back packs or jackets. Go back packing around the worls and trust me the candians stand out for this reason.

Perhaps they don't want to be confused as Americans.... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,033 ✭✭✭Silvera

Yeah, I saw lots of Canadians with their flags on backpacks, sweatshirts, etc. when I was in Oz, NZ, Cook Islands last year.

They don't want to be confused with Americans (and who could blame them for that :D).

It would be like us being confused with the English

Let's start a campaign asking them to stop debasing our flag in such a gross manner!

Only Sinn Fein supporters (i.e. terrorists and bank robbers) would be caught dead wearing something like this.

Er...the Americans also do this, as do the Canadians (as has been mentioned) and I'm sure if you think about it alot of other countries do so too. Of course selective memory/thinking is great though. Isn't it?

It's like getting a tattoo of an Irish flag on your arm. It's very 'tribal'. Like marking your territory. I think they look horrible. Real 'in your face'. It's like draping your tri-colour beach towel over your balcony in Santa Ponsa

That really pale girl wouldnt need the swimsuit to show she's Irish. She, imo, in the epitome of a stereotypical Irish women!!

Not really....I think you'll find that with the majority of canadian people/americans who wear their national flag is as much a result of the clothing manufactores having it as a logo/design (i.e. Tommy Hilfigher/ Company that has canadian maple on backpacks...name escapes me) as it is a deliberate attempt to pimp ones nationality...if that was the case, half the 14 year old overly faked tanned teenie bopper girls on Grafton street would be canadian/american...merely a result of them being some of the largest manufacters in the world selling those cloths..where as the Union Jacks all over the likes of Ibiza and simular sh!t holes, hanging union Jacks outside every building from accomidation, to the local "Rose and Crown" pub, to the "Bull Dog" resteraunt is a very deliberate attempt to inflict the nationality on the locals. It is very insulting and probably intimidating to the locals, and i am certain it wouldn't go down to well if your local area became a holiday destenation for british/germans/americans or any nationality. My point was that it was distastefull, not to have a particular dig at the British, i was merely pointing out that they do it the most, and in the most vulgar manor, as is the reason i said they are not famous for their Respect for foreign cultures. Every nationality does it to an extent, including the Irish, Americans, Canadians or whoever...but nobody does it with such disregard and disrespect as the British, possibly due to a "empire syndrom", they feel the need to "invade" rather than "visit".
Besides...i did say it was a matter of taste....that just happens to be mine on the subject

the one gandalf picked out is all right i suppose.

Im quite partial to redheads, but if i woke up beside that one in the morning, i would never drink again

as for the swimsuits, all the more reason to get them off quickly.

    I'd shag em.
Swimsuits look terrible tbh..And i think the wearing of the flag that blatantly at anything other than sporting event/music festival is pretty crass.
There is a Canadian brand Roots that has the maple leaf as its logo...not mad on that but at least its not as obscenely large as he union jack always is..

Newfies do love their Irish tri-colours although they also have their own (green white and pink).

    Here's Julie demonstrating both flags...

They're brave souls getting up on those cliffs. The wind in Newfoundland is serious business...
