Last year I remeber there was an excellent thread about Would you cheat in the Leaving? Can't remember was it deleated or why it was locked.

I did my leaving last year and was just wondering if anyone about from last year changed their tune or still feel as strongly as they did.

I was also wondering how everyone felt about it now who are (unfortunatly) going through their mocks?

I did my LC last year and didn't cheat, I never would! When I was an exam assistant yr before last tho I escorted some guy to the toilet and I was standing outside and he blatantly cheated. I heard him asking someone in there answers. Was funny tho cause the answers given were wrong but still

Do any of those exam escorts ever actually bring anyone up for cheating?

    I'd say so.

Prolly have some of em in on it. Bribes and whatnot.

    I didn't cheat, nor would I. Bad karma ya'know.

Tho, I know people who did, and failed. They were dependant on it like, so they learnt nothing. Shame.

Nope i'd never cheat, there's too much on the line. For instance if you get caught you're banned from doing the leaving cert for 4 years (I think) and you really need the leaving cert results to go to college (here or abroad) or plcs so why bother?!?

There's also the moral issues, I just wouldn't cheat not on such a big exam! Imagine how bad you would feel knowing that you didn't deserve your grade.

Quite a few were reported in the year I did it, but I didn't report that guy cos I knew he got the wrong answers, he was doin a Physics exam and I did Physics. I did hand in a load of LC history notes I found in the toilet when I went in during the LC history exam

I did the assistant thing last year. Never bribbed, not many left for the loo either. If I saw someone cheating, depending on who it was, id leave em be!

I wouldnt cheat in the Leaving - its not a challange if i did!

Nope! It was a really annoying job cause of the room I had tho, I think every smoker in LC must have been in my room so I was up and down like a yo yo bringing them to the loo.

ok well i know a guy who cheated and he was allowed to do them again the next year. Its probably just propaganda that your techers tell you. ie "if you cheat you wont be able to do your leaving for em , um TEN years!"

When i was doing my JC a few years ago, the exam assistant students were helping people with the answers.

im doing my leaving this year and I wouldnt cheat...

<rant>unless I came up with a novel idea like having a set of radio controlled-vibrators in your pocket and your friends pockets. you could use morse or something </rant>

u kno that ultra violet ink or invisible ink, whatever it is, the stuff u can only see in black light, well u cud use that to write on ur arm or something, and then buy a pair of those sunglasses that can see the ink, that way unless ppl are checking u on ur way in to the exam like ur going to bondi, ur sorted!

i wudnt cheat tho, against my morals!

hehe i can see a whole torrent of everybodys cheating ideas coming up! how about a pair of those wireless glasses that look normal but have a transparent screen on one side. With a pda in your pocket with skoool.ie and other notes downlaoded onto it!

Don't be silly, don't cheat. The time you spend planning and executing your cheating would be more beneficial if used to study. I only know of one person who cheated and he did ****e anyway.

study? beneficial? hah! Ill just not study and fail thank you very much. You see ....
hard work and study will pay off in the future,
    while laziness pays off now!

Hey, i acted as exam supervisor person thingie two years ago, and even if ppl "risk" wasting time, they don't cheat. I think they want to see the LC as an achievement, not a farce. But i can see why ppl would cheat if they were desparate for points....

I dont see how ya could write the whole course down on cheat sheets though, so your gonna have to do some study. Personally id have no problem cheating. I know for the mocks in physics and maths i had a few formulae written out on a piece of paper in my pocket, ''just in case'', but sure i remembered them then from writing them out that morning, so i didnt need them anyway.

I don't cheat, but in my mocks this week, it's uber easy to cheat for Maths and Physics. You can write aload of formulae in your log tables, and nobody checks them.

    *hint hint* *nudge nudge*

You're not allowed bring in your own Maths Tables in the Leaving Cert, you get given a fresh copy, so doing this for your mocks is a waste of your time. :p

Also, since all of the maths exams are on at the same time, you can't write them into your book during the LC for the benefit of other souls :)

The only chance to cheat is during toilet break. Find somewhere to put a book, crack in the wall, or better yet put a sign up on the door saying out of order and have ur books in there. yah... or .... a..... write on ur desk in pencil!!!!!! works every time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,374 ✭✭✭Gone West

or above the ceiling(in the bathroom) if you have suspended ceilings. I know of one guy who did that for the mocks. He was in and out of the jacks every
half hour for the week! nobody even noticed!

I can so see this thread being locked/binned

No you put your notes on the back of the cubicle doors... they never walk in and go full circle in the cubicles. Just look and stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

stick your notes in your pockets sure, no need for any of this high tech lark.

cheating is easy to do in the LC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

I know one or two people who cheated in the LC, and got away with it too. To be honest though, it was the difference between 100 and 150 points for these people, so I didn't really care..they weren't going anywhere in life..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Scraggs

Yeah that really was a great thread o memories.....
i really need the points and would love to have the guts to cheat........but i dont! i'm such a pussy! but on the other hand jus think if someone who cheated got a place in the course you wanted and you didnt you'd be ragin!!!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 11,362 ✭✭✭✭Scarinae

Yeah but I mean even if you did manage to put the entire course for a subject on one piece of paper, theres no way you'd be able to memorise it in the amount of time it takes to go to the toilet - it'd look really suspicious if you took too long. And it'd be wasting exam time anyway

I didn't cheat in the exams, but the year before i was an attentant and i did help some people cheat.

Looking back now i don't think it was a big deal, cheating that is. Kinda like, the system is ****ed, **** the system then kinda thing.

And for those planniing to cheat, for whatever reasons, cheating would be sooo easy. Our exam guy kept falling asleep....
