    Is there any reason why i shouldnt use AVG free edition anti virus software or ZOne Alarm for firewall?

    Yes if you use a Mac.

    But otherwise no. They are tried and tested and free.

    I prefer Sygate over Zone Alarm myself. But that's just preference really.

    The above are fine for non-commercial user
    AFAIK http://www.agnitum.com/download/OutpostInstall.exe (Old Free 2MB) is the only free firewall for windows commercial users. - Please let me know if there are others since its a bit fiddly to setup
