Everybody here who has a PSP has already said they wont buy a UMD movie. You can add House of Flying Daggers to that list as well. In fairness I said I wouldn't watch a movie on that small a screen but after seeing a PSP and the quality of the screen I could be conviced to change my mind ;)

have to say, I actually cant wait till I can see some native resolution movie on it, but it's more the price I'm surprised at...

    No vid out on PSP

These are lower quality than DVD and will have less (if any) extras, they should not be similar prices to DVD's.

They should be at least half the price of a DvD to make them worth the money.

Sony should bundle some free PSP UMD Movies with some of their more popular DvD releases when the PSP is launched. Would appeal to the masses...

does anyone, especially those on boards, actually pay those sort of prices (€28)for dvds these days (apart from box sets)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

I would never pay €28 for a DVD unless there was some special extras.

I wonder if Play will start selling UMD movies. They already have the PSP listed under games. I cant think of the last DvD I bought in a shop in town.

Thats a given but this is more specfically about UMD movies and how good/bad/expensive they will be.

Thats crazy price, especially for mexico and xxx theyre old titles, Its hard to imagine what Sony are thinking, I think the UMD movies price will drop quickly when no-one buys them, its easy to convert DVDs to PSP, I currently have the latest west wing episde and ep1 of 24 on the psp with lots of mp3s and 100megs+ to spare on a half gig card.

Buy UMD movies? no way, they suck batteries also

    Price is far too high.

What they should do is put a unique code in along with DVD's, if you wanna buy the UMD of the same movie, enter the code into the website, pay 5 euro or so, and they will send you the UMD disc. If you only wanted the UMD without the DVD, then i reckon 10 euro would be ok to pay.

I'd say i'll be sticking to memory stick movies tbh

dvd also had a ****ty price to start out with, so i wouldn't expect UMD movies to stay at such a price. i'd say they'll be more popular for rental purposes rather then buying.

but i dead hear some companies may package DVD's with UMD's in the same box. that all depends on the uptake of the psp obviously...

I'd say The ones Sony own [Paramont/Tri Star [correct me if i'm wrong]] will include them on some of the big releases that appeal to the masses and gamers. It would be a shame not to.

I watch movies on the PSP, the screen is really really nice, and widescreen.

I wouldn't buy UMD movies though. I just buy DVDs (online), and put movies on the memory stick(s) I have.

I'm scared i'll start losing the memory sticks they are so small.
I can see myself placing an order for 2 512mb sticks on Komplett this weekend.

Ive watched video' clips ive been able to throw onto my 32mb stick and it is very nice. It was lovely to sit on the dart this morning and watch some video. Movies on it [on eithre Memory Stick or UMD] is well worth it.

    It's Columbia/Tristar

AFAIK only they have made any plans to put movies on UMD.
