    One of my friends wants to install msn 7.0 beta but its asking for her to install active-x.

    Whats Active X??

    what does it do and why does it need it to be installed for msn to work? (coz it wont install otherwise)

    plus i dont think i have it on my rig....and i have msn 7.0 beta working fine.

    So whats the story? :)

    Install it, it wont do anything bad. It's just a Graphics/Sound/Input/Game Network API Toolkit sort of thing which is used by games and other programs.

    Thats DirectX :D

    ActiveX is and internet program language. Its fine if microsoft installs using it but to be honest its a security problem.. a LOT of spyware uses it to get on your computer.

    Why not google ActiveX for more ansers.

    activeX is actually a way for one program to access functionality of another.

    not specifically web based, but that is where they can often come from.

    it may want to install an activeX control which another program may then use in the future.

    as already stated it should be safe enough from MS as far as spyware is involved
