Used to train at Leopardstown during the week and Clontarf on weekends. Clontarf was cool but Total Fitness is far superior to the Leopardstown branch.

Is Ivan Drago hanging around being a bully? They shouldn't let that crazy Russian into gyms anymore. He's nothing but trouble.

    Clontarf...
....and why is it members queue for ages to get into the car park when there is a second one further down with no queue... why bother with the gym if you can't walk 50 yards...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,062 ✭✭✭✭tk123

yeah i often wonder that too when I drive by them on my bike!! :D and whats with the no right turn sign when you are driving out cos I see people turning right there all the time!??!

That does my head in! I park in the overflow every evening, and then walk in from there. What's the big deal! You see queues stretching down the road, so people have obviously driven past the overflow entrance and decided to queue... The mind boggles..

Clontarf Westwood was jammed again last night. When does the post-newyear rush start to fizzle out?? I swear it was never this packed before Christmas. Maybe people are sticking to their new years resoloutions this year..

yeah...monday nights seem fairly packed alright. does anyone get a good reception from the tellies when they manage to tune in one? all i get is 3 words then crackle....really annoying.

I taught it was getting quiter.... especially between 5 and 6...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭irlirishkev

I was there again last night.. Not quite as bad as monday night, but found it very difficult to negotiate my way around the weights section.. still pretty busy.. Ah well, I can't complain all my life!

Purdee - I've never tried to tune into the televisions.. have you asked any of the staff about it?

i asked the very quietly spoken eammon about it but i couldnt make out his reply...and as he already thinks im a nutcase for making him shout all the way through my induction i dont really want to bother him again. he already thinks im a freak cos i make him strain his voice. i dont know whether its just me or does he really have that low a voice. it comes out as a steady but indeciferable low pitched hum. hes the only one who seems to be around when i go up to the desk. i asked another member of staff and they told me they would be back in 2 secs and i never saw her again...i was left standing at the desk for ages and i began to feel a bit of a fool so i went away to the treadmill. i just find it so incredily boring that i end up staring off into space, then looking at the clock and finding only a few minets have passed. everyone always looks so busy and "i absolutely know what im doing" that its a bit intimidating tbh.
the first day ever there i saw a class for steps and i thought that sounded good so i went along even though i was a teeny bit late. 2 mins at most. so i went into the class and grabbed a mat after a nod from the instructor that i could join in. i ended up beside some aryian gym bunny who had a bod like a model. the bit i hadnt thought through was that this was not a beginners class and i hadnt a clue what they were dong so i was about 2 steps behind everyone else and was throwing all sorts of mad shapes cos i didnt know the routiene. it was the most embarrassing 15-20 mins of my life cos i couldnt go out of the class again and a little bit of me died with every perfet step that the bunny beside me done. at the break i just legged it out of there as fast as i could after looking looking like quasimodo being attacked by invisible bees for half the class. ive never gone back to a steps class since.

I don't know which one Eammon is, but it's understandable having to get him to raise his voice, the background noise can be surprisingly loud. I never realise 'cos I rarely speak in the gym. It's only when I'm checking if a bench is free for example that I realise I need to speak louder!

I wouldn't worry about it.. I know what you mean about it getting boring when on the treadmill though. I use them a lot less than I used to because of it. You could try using a walkman/discman/ipod/mp3-player (delete where appropriate)

It takes some guts to go into one of those classes late, you shoulda stayed and stuck it out. It wasn't Samantha Mumba you were beside was it? She sometimes hangs around up there trying to look beautiful.. :D

hey! im not called "purdee" for nothin' ya know!!!!
i havent seen s.m. there...thank god...knowing my luck shed end up on the treadmill next to puffing sweaty red cheeked (what a lovely profile im building here!) me.
i left the class cos i think i was distracting the others with my out of sync, out of rythm and out of space routines. somebody flaying around like a grounded helicopter does not help the concentration of the uber-fit.
i think i will invest in an mp3. ill download motivational speeches and "stay away from the choclate" subliminal messages.

There was a post here about the TVs before. Apparently there's some problem with the way the buildings constructed it interferes with the shortwave or some such.

I know Trojan inquired about the ****e reception before and was told there's nothing could be done.

On a side note we should have a boards training sess some time with a few pints afterwards.... of water of course *cough*

You wanna see puffy and red cheeked you should get into the spinning classes.. I went a few times and thought I was going to die half way through.. I considered myself reasonably fit untill then. And that was the beginners class!!!

The beginners one's aren't too bad purdee. Just don't keep as much resistence on. The first couple are always hard but you will soon build up to them

im just waiting for my trackies to get stuck in the chain and be ripped off. this would be my crowning moment of glory in a history checkered with embarrassing incidents at westwood!! if you see anyone
    a) fall off the bike (sub treadmill as appropriate)
b)get shocks off the handles of the equipment and squeal
    c)trip on the running track
d)walk around oblivious to the fact that their mascara is running down their face pandalike
    e)fake tan running(dont ask)
f)sitting on one of the balls do do stretches and rolling off
    g)using your towel by mistake(worst ever!......ref point e)
h)deciding half way up the climbing wall that they really really dont like being off the ground
    this will probably be me.
i still really look foward to going and at the back of it all really enjoy it so i just forget about the gaffs and hope nobody recognises me when i go in! :D

Start going more often. I find that usually works.

Just go. Once is enough to get yourself into the right frame of mind. For me anyway. It's hard to make that one step, but it usually works!

thanks logic and Kev. yeah I think I will, I used to go with friends but they quit their membership. Going on my own I'll probably get more done and have time to myself!

This is quite likely. Also, people training in groups tend to hog the equipment more, and spend more time arsing about, so you'll irritate other members less aswell (I mean that in the nicest possible way :) )

    ^^^

lol. there would only have been myself and another friend, 3 of us at most. plus it's the teen gym so it wouldn't affect nice people like yourself. :)

Was down last week, and not that I was glaring or anything, but there was a nice ass in front of me on a machine. A little on the big side but nice none the less. Then as I saw her face a little latter it was none other than Samantha Mumba. Looked good in a sweat.
