    dts decoder or output?
thats awfully cheap for a dts decoder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

My brother got a player in dunnes for €50 with progressive scan and component out and DTS (dont know if it was a decoder or output). A small one too, fits under a 14" TV neatly.

But the 100W amp included is a great deal, since the amp is on it I would expect DTS out.

    between dts decoder and output?
There's a picture of it on the back of the Superquinn insert
with today's Indo. No make or model mentioned though.

dts output would be an optical or other cable that outputs a dts signal directly to a dts decoder which then turns it into sounda
a dvd player with built in dts decoder does this without the need for a separate amp and would usually have a selection of inputs on the back to accomadate other devices.

dts audio is rare these days but is of much higher quality than standard ac-3 dolby

there is either a DTS decoder in it or not,
if the DVD player doesn't have the decoder and you want to listen to DTS format, the Amp or receiver needs the decoder,
the DVD player, doesn't even need to know what DTS is for it to be decoded by the Amp, it merely transfers the information to the Amp which then decodes the signal.
normally you don't need the decoder in the player these days, as most amps/receivers have it built in.

you can't really say that DTS is a higher quality than AC3, they are just different standards, DTS tends to be louder and has a heavier bass than AC3 but it doesn't make it better.

dts is regarded as a much higher quality, cant honestly remeber why tbh.
somethign to do with bit rates and the like...

my dvd player has a dts output on its arse where as my mates has a dts decoder built in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

think we might be wrecking this thread a bit, sorry bout that.

DTS is regarded a much better quality by DTS supporters, hehe
the Bitrates are identical, no difference, there, they are just sampled differently, I think the DTS criteria are set slightly higher, but not much higher than AC3.
it doesn't really matter where the decoder is built in, I personally always made sure the my Amp had it, just makes more sense.
also, as it is a digital signal, it doesn't make much difference where it is decoded.
also, you can use Optical and Coax to transfer any type of digital signal

I bought a dvd player from argos yesterday for €45 (had a 20 euro voucher and wanted it as multi region) so I'm kicking myself now over this - thats a great deal half tempted to bring my argos one back and start hunting out one of these from superquinn!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Chalk

my point is that if you dont have a dts decoding amp [like me]

a dvd player with built in dts decoder and an optical in for 50 euros is a pretty good deal.

At least it's not a LIDL Special!
Can you see the "lady who lunch" fighting over the last one in S/quinn in B/rock?
Handbags (Gucci of course) being hurled across the shop floor whilst trying to wrestle the prized possession (DVD) from the grip of the BMW driving "it's the 2nd car" lady driver (chauffeur on holidays so she's had to do the shopping herself). The Evening Herald would have a field day.
    Hmmmm think not.

Just rang the Limerick store and they said they were walking out the door.
When you look it up on the website it only offers collection from the Lucan store...
Better ring your local branch. Mine shuts in an hour... time to go...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Digix is the brand... Stuck in a dvd with a load of different Divx n xvid files n it played the lot. If I can make it multiregion its the deal of the year!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Chalk

    digix ht-200?
they had them before xmas, got one then for 90 euro :/

ah you havent a hope of making it regio free,
theres nothing on the web about it

it could be a rebadged landel ??
have emailed www.digixmedia.com without response and tried a few of the chineses distributors

cant get any information about where this machine comes from.
maybe someone will open it up and find a brand name inside?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Been looking for the hack myself.... No sight of one anywhere.

Took the cover off n there's no signs of it being a clone of another player. Guess all u can do is sit back n wait. Really want to make this multiregion so i can play all my Us dvds on my dads system

some hacks for other players. sometimes they use the same codes, can't hurt trying until somebody posts the definite model number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭podge3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Tried all those hacks n they don't work....

I haven't tried an VCDs but it says it plays them..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Chalk

G/F just got 2 in Ballinteer, not sure how many they had left though.
If anybody does manage to find a code to make it multi-region, please
    post it up here.
    Cheers.

Whoever makes it multiregion first deserves a prize, i've looked everywhere and at every dvd player that looks like it n still nothing. Closest yet is http://www.waitec.com/trade/productview/277/21/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Chalk

i might take mine apart when i get home,
    this is getting interesting, hehe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

I took the cover off mine already, there's a heatsink over the main processor, i didn't take it off so i don't know what it is. There's bugger all else in there, its worth it just to laugh at how cheap the amp is... Its like one of those hobby kits u buy n peats :-)

Are we sure its progressive scan? It didn’t say it on the box so I didn’t buy.

Get 50 people to chuck in a Euro each, go and buy one and then give it to one of the "gurus" here to take apart to see if there is a region free code available or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,003 ✭✭✭iggy

Just bought one in SQ Lucan- still have about 30 left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 900 ✭✭✭cosgrove80

Did anyone pick one up in Waterford?

I asked a friend of mine to look in Superquinn in Waterford today for one.
He said there was no sign of them. He asked a member of staff and they had no idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭joolsveer

Just bought one in Finglas. It is progressive scan. They had about 15 left.
