Nikon F55 A/F Problem

    Hi

    I have an Nikon F55, with 28-80, and 70-300 Nikkor G lenses.

Haven't had an opportunity to use it for some time and was looking forward to finally exercisng it in Paris last weekend. It has sat, with batteries out, lense caps etc attached on my shelves for about 4-5 months.

In Paris with a brand new set of batteries it refused to auto focus whether in the dark, in sunlight or any conditions for that matter, the AF-Assist Illuminator never lights up to assist focus. It even fails to set aperature size when manual focus is selected. This with either lense.

Any ideas - I think it is out of warranty. I'm annoyed as I brought it in Australia and took some wonderful pictures with it. Since the end of that trip it has hardly been used and has been treated with great care.

Is there a Nikon repair center or has anyone got experience of sending their camera for repair?

    Cheers
    bid

/edit have found an Nikon SLR repair center in Meath but would still like any relevant information
