firewall behind eircom router with static IP

I'm trying to configure a sonicwall behind an eircom / netopia 3346 router with a static IP address. Now eircom / RIPE gave me 2 usable static IP's, one is on the router's WAN, and the other I have on the sonic's WAN. The reason for the static IP's is to allow the setup of a site-site IPSEC VPN with another location

Can anyone tell me what modifications I need to make to the netopia ? I've disabled NAT and DHCP on the router, but I still get no connection, even though the netopia tells me that the DSL is up. I assume the router can be used like this, though I wouldn't be surprised if eircom deliberately knackered them somehow.

Are you allowed to disable NAT on an ethernet router, that would expose your internal LAN to the Internet, your ISP might be detecting and blocking this, you have to pay to have IP addresses accessable on the internet.

Hmmm would it not be better to put the router in bridge mode that way it won't have to use an IP.

Put the router in bridge mode then get the firewall to use it as a PPPoe device.

That's the way I've done it as well, FWIW

you will need a netopia 3341 to put the router into bridged mode, but then it will work fine...
