    It's the BBC-backed Freeview service.

Webpage here, comparison with other (mostly paid-for) options here.

basically it's a small box that you use with your existing aerial. In Ireland, works best if you're on the east coast or can get it from one of the NI transmitters. In other words, it's probably only going to work if you can receive BBC already through your terrestrial aerial.

BBC are currently on Free To Air Sat.

You would get all of the BBC channels.

ITV may move to this platform.?????

Yes we got it here on the east coast about a year ago - refuse to give Sky a penny, ever :)
One off payment for a set-top box and a minidish - didn't know the aerial system worked over here, maybe just in Dublin.
Quick, easy, and comparitively inexpensive - couple of hundred at most.
I find News 24 and having decent reception for BBC 1 & 2 the greatest bonuses.

Freeview is received via an aerial (mostly only available in South East and Border counties).

Freesat is on a dish (available everywhere).
