    By their real names.

Never called them anything else even when I was a toddler.

"Dad"/"Mom" or similar would just feel weird...

I call my Mom mommy, and my dad by his real name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭NotMe

Mom is real American. "Hey Mom, could you give me a lift to the mall?". And Mum is real English. :)

call my mother by her first name or just "mother"..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I just use their names. When I was young, other kids always found it strange. But I guess I just don't belive in labeling people.

And I call my grandparents 'deceased'

Mam and Dad, or Ma and Da, sometimes Mother

When I'm talking to one or other about the other one, or to one of my siblings about either one of them it is always

    "Me Da/Ma"

    ie

Me speaking to my mother about her, her in ok-good mood
"Hey ma, will you look at that"
    same for father
"Hey Da, will you look at that"
Me speaking to my mother about her, her in bad-ok mood
"hey mam, will you look at that"
    same for father
"Hey Da, will you look at that"
Me speaking to my mother when she has done something ridiculous
    "Mother!"

Me speaking to my mother/siblings about my father
    "Me Da is over there"
Me speaking to my father/siblings about my mother
    "Me Ma is over there"

Never by their first names, ever.

If my mother is on the roof, then it is

"Hey maw, get off the dang roof"

    :D
