A simple question what type of punk is your favourite?

I like Hardcore mostly but there are a few pop-punk bands I enjoy listening to.

Ro: maaan!

I'd say the best way to describe my favourite type would be modern punk. Somewhere between classic and pop. Hardcore is the best type for watching bands you don't know play. Oi also. Ska's just annoying after a while. Pop has it's charms. Classic / Old school will probably always be the accepted best.

I listen to late 70s punk like Ramones, Clash, Sham69... early 80s hardcore like Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, GBH, Discharge... Oi! like Blitz, Cocksparrer and some Anarcho-Punk like Crass, Conflict, Oi Polloi...
.. and a few modern bands, mainly ones that play 77-style punk.

I like a bit of everything personally. the hardcore stuff by 'Fits the most though!

My mate is getting me into more and more hardcore though. He's obsessed by it!

Yeah, The Misfits are cool.

You should check out Scratch the Surface by Sick of it All if you haven't already. They're one of my favourite bands.

To me, hardcore is Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, DOA, Circle Jerks, GBH, Discharge, Varukers, Government Issue, etc... but I know there's music now that people call hardcore that's **** IMO.

I think the term hardcore has changed over the years yeah.To me personally Hardcore is Bands like Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front ,Madball etc. (New York Hardcore) Then theres your Metalcore type stuff like Hatebreed, Terror, etc. Minor Threat, Black Flag etc re still Harcore bands to me but in this day and age i just refer to em as old school harcore. Thats not to say The current hardcore bands are new though. Agnostic Front have been going for over 20 Years, Roger Miret Played Bass with The Cro-Mags at one stage!

I suppose the term can be used anyway, but the Metal heads will consider the harder hardcore stuff like Hatebreed etc to be Hardcore and vote for it.

Fave type of punk would have to be classic punk, Ramones hands down are the gods of punk, followed closely by the Pistols and The Clash.

CAn't really say I know enough punk to actually appreciate the different styles... but in any case the Dead Kennedys are my favourite. Quite fond of Pistols, Clash and Misfits, less so of Ramones and some of the modern bands I've heard.

I love most kinds of punk, bar a lot of pop-punk. Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, Fugazi, Dead Kennedys, Green Day, Rancid, Misfits, everything really. Just love the fast simple honesty of it all.

Gotta say I like it all aswell... from Black Flag to even the poppiest of pop punk (For example I like Avril Lavigne, and The Eyeliners, and I'm not ashamed to admit it! Though not Busted...)

Gotta say though; Anti-Flag, Alkaline Trio, Propaghandi, the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, [spunge], Dropkick Murphys, Less Than Jake, One Man Army, Flogging Molly, Ozma, The Ataris... all amongst my favourites.

So in conclusion, it's all good.

Propagandhi, hmm... I love Anti Manifesto. But I bought the album it's on, and gotta say I wasn't swept away. Is their other stuff better?

I liked How To Clean Everything (their LP with Anti Manifesto on it) - especially the cover of "I Want U 2 Want Me" - but my favourite LP of theirs is Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes. It was released in 2000 or 2001 on Fat Wreck Chords... if you check their website they'll probably have it for sale. Most of their CDs are like $10 or something ridiculously cheap like that. I Fat Wreck.

a) I hate ska
b) I hate Oi!
c) I hate pop
d) I'm never quite sure what hardcore is, everytime I think I know what it is someone gives me another definition. I like what I like.

That's what I had trouble with. There isn't really an option for that kind of punk. It's not pop, but it isn't any of the rest of them either...

I like a lot of punk, but I don't really know which bands I like fit into which catagory. I'd guess I like some bands from all of them. The ska that I like, I really love (Capdown), but there's a lot of ska I don't like. It's hard to narrow down what I like into specific genres. They seem to be blurred at the edges.

But also like a variety of other stuff such as Distillers, Dropkicks etc. Overall though, classic punk is where it's at.

You want hardcore? Our school priest is into the Pistols. He is without a doubt the coolest priest I've EVER met

when you say 'classic' do you mean groups such as slf, the clash, uk subs, the ruts, the damned, etc. ?

if so then 'classic' gets my vote

thats basically the same as me except i like a bit of two-tone and i listen to a lot of reggae

If classic counts as real punk then that is my favourite type of punk by far.

I started off with punk by way of 1977 so i love stuff from that era.
But what i adore at the moment is the really hardcore stuff, alot of it is almost metal really like Wolfbrigade and Driller Killer and Doom.
It's the only punk that's REALLY real these days.

You left out er Proper Punk, which is the next generation or two up from Classic.
