When I rip the files into WMA format I end up with massive file sizes - 30mb per track. Anybody know how to get them down to managable size, say, 3-4 meg per song?

  • go to MP3 settings and lower your quality. 192 is plenty.

Sounds like you're ripping to WAV? WMA would never be that big.

Says it's a winamp media a file. Could well be a WAV file. How do I encode to WMA?

    Use Windows Media Player.

You would get better quality and compatability if you ripped them to mp3.

it could be the lossless WMA. Then again, wav is more likely. The program is possibly outputting a .wav file with a .wma ending on the filename.

Personally, i'd avoid WMA. I wouldn't use a format that has DRM on it if i can possibly avoid it. Go with mp3 and the Lame mp3 encoder. Gives the best quality mp3's out there.
