Hosting & bandwidth limitations?

As the web hosting sub-sect is now closed where does the ono-confrontational info request go? Anyway...

I'm working for a start-up web-based company, who will be providing online consultancy services. The build of the website is well underway & the same company are taking care of the site & e-mail hosting (on separate servers).

Basically the site is CMS driven with a private subscribers area. In this area there will be .pdf,.doc, online forms etc for subscribers to complete/download (up to a possible max 15 per subscriber at a time).

Anywho, the hosting package looks like this:

Shared (with max 4 others) server
    100MB web/database space
200MB Bandwidth/mth (no mention of charges thereafter)
    20POP e-mail boxes
    2x DNS domain hosting
Win2003, IIs6, JRUN4 App Server, Sun Jave runtime 1.4, full JSP support
    daytime business hours tech support

    At a whopping €2500pa (incl set-up, software & licencing)

How can I assess our possible bandwidth requirements &/or the value of the overall package?

    Muchos cheers for any info.

    The entire thing sounds nuts.

The bandwidth and disk allocation are pathetic and the pricing is not far off what you would pay for a dedicated machine.

How in gods name? How can the bandwidth limit only be twice the storage allowance? Download 2 backups of your files and there goes your limit...

That really needs to be rethought-out ;)

At a glance, you would appear to be getting (potentially) ridden royally.

That is quite possibly the worst deal I have ever seen in my entire life. Host2xs in england give you 100mb disk space and 1000mb bandwith allownace for €35 per annum! Only a couple of orders of magnitude price difference....

You could get a Dedicated 4 box with tons of bandwith for that much!

One might rather pay for Geocities...

Looks like they're trying to justify that price with Win2k3 and Business Hours Support. For that price you want 24 hours support!

Sam: How you feeling, big guy?
Toby (with palpably deep sincerity): Like I've been screwed with my pants on.
    Sam: Good!

    It seems approporiate somehow...

Definately sounds like an absolute rip off. I almost feel like a name and shame request on such a package but probably best not to.

Anyhow. You're talking about PDFs and Docs - 200mb really wont go all that far. I'm on basic linux hosting with Blacknight. For 99 euro-dollar-yen-things I get same diskspace, 2800mb more transfers per month, 80 more POP3 accounts... the list goes on. That's 2401 euro less per year (assuming yours is ex VAT).

As a start-up myself I know how tight cash can be. You really need to look at alternatives. There are a number of very reliable companies out there who'll treat you well and support you well. I personally wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blacknight. I'm sure others can say the same about them and other companies.
